How long does beer last?
General Beer Discussion by CROWN
No room in the fridge and no cold dark places to put it....how long's it gonna last just hangin out on the counter? Is it going to go bad or change taste? It's not warm, but it sure isn't cold either. Can't be worse than sitting on a shelf at the store can it? Thanks for any help.[?]

I bought an Irish Ale just before last Christmas, kept it refridgerated the whole time, and when I opened it last week, it had turned into a $4 bottle of crap. By the way, the bottle was of the non-transparent variety, i.e., the "old style" of milk-coloured glass. Moral of this story is, I guess, is drink 'em soon.
It could have been ruined before you bought it. I'm sure it wasn't brewed the day before the store got it and it's always a crap shoot when you're drinking something that has been imported overseas [V]

The one advantage of living in PA! My samuel smith comes by the case so it probably saw light for a grand total of 2 minutes before I drank it. I'm still surprised that beerdog's irish ale went bad from being in the fridge. I'd still guess that it wasn't handled properly before iti was sold, or was a crappy batch. We'll never know

i can only imagine what sam smiths tastes like on tap over there. Its damn good here, but you can taste the damage done to it by the clear bottles, i wanna try it fresh from the brewery.

I agree. CLear bottles and all Sam Smith's is a fine tasting beer. Fresh from the brewery? I can only imagine [:p]

You guys are actually making me want to try the Nut Brown Ale again. I've tried that and the Old Brewery Pale Ale (and I really like English Pales) and both of them tasted skunky (the PA was really bad) and I'm VERY hesitant to try them again, unless I can find them on tap somewhere. The stouts/porters seem to fare much better. I do know a place that has the Nut Brown on tap now and again. Maybe I'll try it next time I see it.

I'd definitely recommend trying them again. The Nut Brown Ale is the best Brown Ale I've had to date and the Old Brewery Pale Ale was quite solid as well. Perhaps you were just a bit unlucky.
