I'm not a big fan, but it comes to my attention that the next person for america to idolize[:o)] (american idol) is soon to be chosen....(o my god!). So we have our own idols here at Beerpal....and i say we do the same and pit our own 5 beer idols against one another in a beer trivia contest royale till there's only one left standing......the grand champion "International Ale IDOL" (or something)......or better yet just a fight to the death![:p]....well not quite.....but this can come to fruition here i think.....any thoughts?? So IDOLS...you know who you are.....throw your beer caps aside and come out and prove yourself worthy of the crown and ye shall be idolized forever![:0]

Sure thing, bread boy. Actually, some day the ranks will be turned upside down and I intend on not having any beer idols when it's adjusted. [}:)] It shouldn't be possible to become a beer guru in only a month of being a member. And no one should have reached the top rank already. What would they have to look forward to then? The current system bases rank soley on beer caps earned. The future method will have more requirements. For example, you must make X number of forum posts to advance in rank. That will prevent members from hiding out [:(!]. Expect minimum requirements for beer reviews, retailer reviews, and adding new beers etc. The goal is to force more people to interact with all the features of the site. Too many features are being neglected [:(]

I'd welcome a ranking/scoring change. The beer reviews should be a higher proportion of everyone's score. That's how you learn beer (home brewing should be worth something too, but heck, you can't score that). The fact that you can get 6pts for a picture upload and only 5 for a beer review.... Just seems disproportionate. Even adding new beers should be worth less than a beer review (but more than a stinkin' picture). Same would be true of retailers. Ah, what do I know?

Please note, that picture already produces only 5 caps and beer review 10 caps. One more thing - if you read reviews carefully you should find so much sh'making... So you can offer censorship? And pictures - they are very useful information about beer. Sometimes it's better than some kind of review like "I like it". And the most important thing - better don't think about BP caps and more about beer. We all share here information and experiences. That makes BP attractive, not really earned caps. But anyway it's up to crew to change BP rules. And such or another rate system, more or less Idols will change nothing.

Well, I was hoping more people would be taking their own pictures, which would then be a lot of work. Either way, I purposely wanted the caps to be significant for adding pictures because it was a brand new feature. It was sort of a promotional ploy [;)]

I hear ya, flash.... the thought struck my mind as you posted a future "redoing" of the pts system.... Wait 'til you get to 50+% of pictures, hehe. I enjoy the site no matter what my points are at... and I'll be contributing new beers, pics, and reatailers as I come across them either way.

what about length of review reflected on caps earned? I dont know if this is even possible........ but of course- its all about the BEER, i'm just stirring things up.[:D]
Yes, it's possible to vary caps based on length of a review. I've considered it, but chose not to because length doesn't always equal quality [;)]. And who knows how many people would start writing useless info just to get the extra caps. I suppose some day we could have review moderators to check every review for QA.
