A classic bitter that has gained cult status among cask ale drinkers. Amber in colour, Young's Special has a fruity, slightly estery nose with a good hop aroma and full round flavour, a fine balance between malt and hops. 100% malt brew: Maris Otter and crystal malt together with Fuggle and Golding hops.

Dark copper coloured, mediumsized white bubbly head. Fruity hoppy and hayish aroma. Sweet caramellish malty and hoppy flavour. Sweet sugary finish. Long sweet aftertaste with some fruitish bitter hints.

Sampled at Britannia, London. Cask-conditioned, hand-pumped. It was a smooth bitter with malt and citrus hops present. It's a fine ale, but not the best that the London breweries have to offer.

Cask conditioned at The Marquess of Anglesey, Covent Garden, London. Served at cellar temperature. Amber colour, low head, moderate malty aroma with some oak, mellow rounded flavour, moderate but decent bitterness. A good pint!

It sounds ordinary but is stunningly good. Strong balanced flavour.
