i'd prefer a good esb to this sweeter and slightly heavier version. not bad at all, the sweetness is nice if you're in the mood, but i like a little more hops.

Pours a dark amber with very small head. Tastes and smells rather sweet. Mouthfeel is almost sticky. The finish is where I started to taste some of the bitterness. A good beer, but not one of the better offerings from Young's.

(Best before 26Jun2007) Very nice! Picked this one up also on the strength of Heddy's recommendation, and I quite agree with her... a real good beer. Poured a deep amber to golden-orange, slightly hazy, with a nice full head that faded to leave nice traces of lacing. Lemony, orangey fragrance, tangy mouthfeel, and a real well-balanced flavor profile. I confess to not having a lot of experience with bitters... A Riverhorse and a Weyerbacher being the only ones in my regular stock, but I'll have to try more to get a feel for this type. Meanwhile, I'd repeat this one anytime! Seems a heck of a value too, at $2.60/pint.

This beer poured an amber color topped off by a small white head that left no lace. The aroma was straight forward malt with no other standout aromas. Mouthfeel was medium bodied. The flavor was mostly all malt, very mild and featured some faint hoppy bitterness in the finish.

a very smooth tasting beer. soft and gentle, yet very full and big on flavor. a nutty-ish taste and is full bodied without being overly heavy. goes down great

Clever label, interesting sounding ale so I picked one up a while back. Overall nice and tasty. Pours a medium amber color with a slightly creamy head that ultimately dissipates to a film. Moderate lacing is left along the glass and the carbonation is steady. The aroma is malty with a nutty undertone. I find the aroma slightly weak to detect but once the beer warms up it begins to come out a little more. I like the overall flavor of this one, it is rather malty with a slight hop character. The flavor is subtle, but it works well. Solid English Ale with a smooth finish and a clean aftertaste. Decent brew, nothing that stands out but all around decent.

08.21.05 500ml bottle best before 01/2006. Dark red-amber pour below and ample khaki head of fine bubbles, fading surprisingly quickly. Aroma is plain, dry grass, peas, nutty grain in background. Flavor is quite unremarkable, in fact reminding me a bit of ODouls Amber. Bitter hints from hops, also metallic and mineral to some degree. Certainly nothing to get worked up over, but a better alternative than most of what I saw on the shelf today.
