Wellington Arkell Best Bitter

Tall can part of Welly mix 4 pack. Pours a small foamy bubbly white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Has an amber coppery appearance. Ok lacing. Aromas of toasty and caramel malt, a little bit earthy as well. Flavours are toasty malts, some mild caramel notes, some more earthy malts, very light citrus hints. A little bit of a dry mouthfeel.

Arkell is an area south of Guelph that managed to get a beer named after them. Not a lot of people live there, and similarly, not a lot of complexity to this beer, but then, it’s an English Bitter so that’s no surprise. The beer pours a dark gold colour with brown hints, very light for a Bitter, with a thin foamy white head. Aroma is nutty with hints of floral hops and caramel. Flavour is quite malty with notes of caramel, and a bitter hop finish. If Arkell was bigger, maybe they could brew a better bitter.

Part of a Wellington 4-Pack available at the LCBO. The beer pours a translucent golden red colour with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet malt, caramel, and light fruits. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is toasted caramel, bread, and a weak hoppish finish.

Rich crystal clear copper body a ¼” cap floats on top, meh…. looks like a beer nothing special. Blech what a ungood aroma!!!!! Sour sweaty crotch, or possibly old hiking boot with an underlying sweetness. There is nothing appealing about this aroma, it’s like as if caramel could rot this would be what it would smell like. Taste is marginally better then aroma. Sweet malts, grass, a crisp hopiness, more grass, very mild hints of coffee, and some hazel nut in the finish. I could probably drink this beer and not think about it and it would be fine but when you actually concentrate on what your drinking here it falls apart.

Poured out a large bubbly white head that stays forever, messy lacing and a super clear, nice amber coloured beer. The aroma seems thick and fragrant. Sweet, doughy bread malts, faint citrus hops, hint of spice. The taste is very watery, similar taste as the aroma minus the fact that you can notice it when you think about it. I notice it more when slamming it back. Ok bitterness. Too fluffy to let me drink more than 1 quickly. Man, this is waaay to mellow. Not that bad but there are better options from England for almost the same price (at least here!)

This is a golden coloured beer with some hints of red it. The head is thin, and disappears quickly. The aroma is weak malt, a little hop, and some piney scents. The flavour has malt up front, and finishes with a citrusy hoppy kick.

Tried from hand-pulled cask.....Poured a crystal clear amber with a decent frothy head that lasted out the drink...laced the glass well. Has some nice understated aromas of fresh fruit mingled with caramel or toffee as a more distinct malty sweetness is imparted to the nose..... medium body, good malt spine, round mellow character and a creamy silken mouth feel.... Starts with a nice wallop of malts then light and tangy fruityness to the tongue then builds to a pleasingly balanced hop and malt creamy mouth feel... finishes with a twang of citrus bitter with a lovely malty-bready after taste.... I LIKE this Ale from cask ! Beats the hell out of the rather subdued and overly carbonated and pasturized bottle version

Cask: Poured a clear brown color ale with a small head that disappeared quite fast. Aroma is quite weak with some malt being distinguishable with some light hops. Taste is refreshing but very light with some sweet malt and light hops. Body is too thin for my own liking and was expecting more bitterness. Not bad but there is some way better bitter out there.

2nd Wellington beer testing tonight. Good, it's quite different from the "Special Pale Ale". Light amber in colour with a small disappearing head. I can smell green apples. Tastes mildly bitter, not as much as expected, and with hints of those apples. Pretty damn good.
