Barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name barley wine was given to this style because of its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines (somewhere between 8.5% and 14% ABV). Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set one aside for a year or two. First brewed in small batches once a year to commemorate our 5th Anniversary, this wonderfully delicious brew is now available year round. Uinta's award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich, malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content.

A ruddy brown colored beer with a big sudsy textured tan head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into thick lacing of film, ringlet and persistent cap. The total profile is a bittering hoppiness blended well with a caramel maltiness. Full bodied slickness.

Sampled at the Brew's Best Beer Fest on my trip to Vegas, back in 2011. Poured a dark copper colour with a creamy beige head. Grainy nut scent with little farm notes. Thick mouthfeel. Taste of dark fruits with some hints of nuts. A nice and easy drinking barleywine.

Nice west coast hops in the aroma. Great head, dissipates fast. Not my favorite flavour, some rancid butter, tastes like bad hops?, strong alcoholic taste. Smells like little red riding hood, tastes like the big, bad wolf.

Pours out in a cloudy reddish brown colour with rich firm off-white head. Rich and fruity aroma off igs, black cherries, raisins and mild resin on a solid backbone of tobacco, burnt caramel and sweet licorice. Full-bodied with notes of burnt caramel, wet tobacco, figs and buts with hints of resin and currant-leaves. Well-hidden alcohol behind a rock solid body. Long, full, almost chewy finish of toasted malts, nuts, grass, resin, tobacco and figs.

This was or is the XVI anniversary Barley Wine. I'm not big on Barley Wine because they tend to be over done. This one was very drinkable. I was impressed to find the color a nice reddish copper to be somewhat clear. The mouthfeel was lively. And the taste had nice hints of apple in it. I'll buy it again.

XVI anniversary. A pretty decent barleywine straight outta UTAH. UTAH it was Mormon here? Not only that, but some high abv brews, this one lockign in at 10.4! Pours a crystal clear copper with a nice big head. Carmelized something, cashew and flowers onthe nose. Taste is fantastic, clean, fruity, and a lil syrupy. Sealing the deal with another nice barleywine.

What a suprise that Utah can carry a barleywine or any beer that is not just over 3 percent, but over 10%. Very strong, tasty, crafty. Delicious with hints of apple fruit, and some sort of wood.

Aroma is strong and rather fruity with a firm alcohol ting, the sort I expect from a barleywine. It pours a translucent dark mahogany, almost a cola brown, with a fairly thick if none too persistent pale cream-tan head. Flavor is more hoppy than malty, almost like an IPA, with a fairly strong and ragged alcohol bite. Texture is rough and rowdy and tingles all the way down.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear burgundy color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of piney hops with some sweet malt. Taste is a very well balanced mix between some piney and somewhat citrus hops and a sweet malt base that is not overly sweet. Body is full with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very well done with great balance and very good drinkability factor.
