Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale is rich, malty and full-bodied. Brewed with specially roasted malts for a complex blend of caramel and toffee flavors and a subtle peaty character. Colonel Carmichael, an educated and accomplished Scotchman, settled in Lake Mills in 1844. He selected a location at the head of Rock Lake, which he stocked quite largely with sheep, intending to make a sheep farm of the place. He had five hundred sheep driven in from Ohio and shepherds with their dogs and crooks come clear from Scotland. We can picture it now… the Colonel relaxing on the back porch with a Sheep Shagger Scotch Ale in hand, looking onto his fields and watching his shepherds shagging sheep for shearing. (Shagging means retrieving… what were you thinking?)

Thanks phishpond. A deep copper colored brew with a a wispy thin yellowish khaki head. A nose of hay and toffee. There is also some dusty old library book. This is a sticky thick bodied brew with lots of sweetness. There is also some toffee and a hint of pears. There was also a note of nutmeg. This is a smooth drinker even with the big body. A nicely made beer.

One of my fave styles, especially this time of year, and my first time sampling Tyranena's entry. It's nice to find they can brew without the papillae-sizzling hoppiness they often favor, now that I've moved away from high IBU brew and am trending more toward maltier ales. Pours a crystalline copper hue beneath a modest and quickly dissipating head. Average aroma, with a nicely coating and lingering mouthfeel. A sweet and warming maltiness on the palate with some woodsy notes. Little of the smokiness I enjoy in some other Scotch ales, but a very enjoyable quaff. I'm glad I sprang for a 6-pack at Discount Beverages, and I'd recommend this one to anyone who fancies a sweet, warm and malty ale on a cool November evening.

Pours a clear brown color with a copper hue with a small tan head which quickly dissolves. Toffee, caramel and roasted, smoky malt aromas abound. Taste is very similar to the smell with an added hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel is full and smooth for the style. I wasn't paying attention to the 7.7% abv, which is not even noticeable, making this is one deceptive beer. This a style which I am fairly new to, but one that I am quickly taking a liking to. Another one of Tyranena's "Brewers Gone Wild" series that is worth trying.

A beer given to me by one cool dude that goes by pfoxyjohn! Thanks buddy! Poured from a bottle to a cloudy amber color and had virtually no head. The flavor of this has a very smooth malt flavoring that seems to have a been roasted. This roasted flavor seems to linger and seems like there is a smoked malt in there that lingers on the back of the tongue for a bit which I like. This is a great beer to have on a very cold night and again thank John for sending me this tasty brew!

Aye, lad - another Wisconsin Winner from pfoxyjohn. Mark another one off the wish list! This interestingly-named brew pours a deep ruby amber with a smallish head leaving a constant ring and some lacing. Nice caramel, roasted malts, slight smokiness, a touch of earthy peat and a hint of apples in the aromas. Taste is buttery rich and butterscotch smooth with a bit sweet maltiness cut only by a touch of smoke and the abv. This banshee is the bitch - loved it. Thanks John! now hearing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes after that gem....

ON tap last night at the Malt House: Poures a bright cloudy amber colour with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is sweet in itself. Taste is semi smokey but very rich and pretty damn sweet. Toffee all the way through. It's a very filling and super rich beer which I want to enjoy more but I can't get beyond the sweetness. Taste buds extra sensitive last night perhaps?

On Inauguration Day, Tyranena first introduced this beer as "Inauger-Ale" at their Lake Mills Tasting Room. Last night it was served there as "Sheep Shagger", a moniker filched from Cairngorm. It will soon be bottled under that name as a "Brewers-Gone-Wild" offering. No matter what it's called, this is a tasty beer. It pours a clear copper color with a thin tan head. The nose is lightly roasted malt with a hint of light smoke and fruit. The smooth mouthfeel ends crisp and slightly bitter. The deep, earthy taste of lightly roasted malt is complemented by faint peat and subtle fruity esters; the beer ends full-flavored, rich and warm. Very nice; a very drinkable yet flavorful, robust version of this delightful style.
