A malt lovers dream, this ale is highlighted by light smoke and a toasted nutty flavor, with notes of sweet toffee and caramel, and subtle roast and coffee undertones. Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, god would permit us to be Pirates.

Comes out of the tap an appetizing warm brown - not much head, but that is apparently an artifact of the pour. Aroma has a smoky overtone, as well as malty and caramel note and a hint of toffee. Malty flavor has a definite note of smoke, almost like barbecue, along with subtle tones of caramel and toffee. Smooth, lively texture has OK fizz but lets you know it is heading downstairs. If not Twain’s best effort, certainly worth at least a try!
