Tui was first brewed in 1889 by entrepreneur (and all around smart bloke) Henry Wagstaff, who vowed to rark up the colonies with his beloved East India Pale Ale. Tui soon became a favourite drop. It's as good today as it's always been.

Had this while on a trip to New Zealand a number of years ago. I just came across a photo of the bottle and remember having and enjoying the brew one cold rainy night.

Bottled (from bierzwerg). Something between amber and copper colour with a mediumsized creamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is sweet and bready malt with some mild floral notes. Flavour is quite similar with some slight cardboardy and herbal/hayish notes. Not all thay much hops in this one...

Brought back to the U.S. by a good buddy of mine, and sampled at the monthly Foam On The Brain homebrew club meeting last Friday night. Would it be fair for a Yank to sample this? One who drinks high-octane 75+ IBU IPA's on a daily basis? Yes, yes indeed.

330mL red can, with an oval gold-on-red logo, and some sort of bird. "Contains Approx 1.0 Standard Drinks" (Well, that's certianly good to know!).

This is a pitiful excuse of an ale..., IPA or otherwise.

I had to laugh when I tasted this, and found that it was described to be an IPA. "Um, hello? There're no hops in the aroma, and most certianly not enough in the flavor to even call this a Pale Ale..."

Style semantics aside, this doesn't even cut it as a Ordinary (Session) Bitter. Extremely thin, with no noticiable malt or hop profile to speak of. Not very drinkable, compared to either water or beer. Basically carbonated iced-tea, in the long run.

Laughably inept, from start to finish.
