This hearty brown ale is named for its original brewer- our awesome Beerman Chad Opfer. Smoove Opferator started out as a very small experiment taproom-exclusive brown ale named “Brown Sugar.” Since then, it has undergone a name makeover and an expanded distribution to Iowa and Wisconsin. The taste is still the same as when we brewed the first small batch. Deep mahogany color with a hefty malt body. Robust flavors of roasted almonds, hints of chocolate with a slight bitterness in the finish. Oh so smoove!

I picked a couple of these on a recent trip to Iowa. Dark brown pour with mahogany highlights when held up to the light. Small dark tan head that quickly disappears. Minimal lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, malted milk balls, cocoa powder and hint of vanilla. The roasted malt lead the flavor parade, followed by cocoa, roasted nuts and vanilla. Ends with a pleasant, slightly bitter finish. Ample carbonation. This is a delicious Brown Ale, among the best that I have ever tasted. My third beer from TG (Zeelander and Dorothy were the others) and I can't wait for the next road trip back to Iowa to try some others. Worth trying, if you can get your hands on some, as their distribution is very limited.
