Massivly hopped Red Ale. Coinciding with the release of his bottled range in the UK marked, Doug joined the Thornbridge team to recreate a version of his Red Ale, which has recently medalled at the World Beer Cup and North American Beer Awards. The 5.9 % beer is crammed with speciality malts and with a twist on the popular American Red style, it has been hopped instead with a massive amount of oil-rich English hops including Admiral, Braming Cross, Phoenix, Pilgrim and First Gold. "We wanted to take a great US style of beer and put it a bit of a Bristish twist on it" says Brewery Manager, Kelly Ryan. Colorado Red has hints of subbtle toffee malt, complimented by a heady mix of dried fruits, candied peel, hop resin, rosewater and a fantastic blend of herbal UK notes. The bitterness is well rounded and the beer finishes with hints of citrus and roasty malt characteristics.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brownish red colour, large off-white head. Nice aroma of fruity and mildly spicy English hops, hints of resin, also malts and earthy notes. The medium sweet flavour is also fruity, but more in terms of dried or baked fruits and berries, again some earthy tones, well hopped with a firm malty backbone.

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in an English tulip pint an unfiltered and opaque mahogany-mid-brown coloured ESB with a generous two fingers beige and dense creamy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is dominated by massive hops and the resulting deep bitterness, then riped fruits and light roasted malts, notes of caramel. The flavour is rich, toffee malts, caramel, riped fruits, figs, plums, spicy tones, orange peels, flowery, roses and heavy hoppy biiter. The texture is a bit oily. The mouthfeel is fulled, thick, bitter and very smooth. This medium to full bodied ESB has a long hoppy bitter finsih. A very nice ESB, if a bit expensive.
