Pours out a 100% black brew with a tan head. The aroma is heavy roasted malt and licorice smell. The mouthfeel is good and thick. The taste is of smoke and dark roasted malt.worth trying again.

A jet black colored beer with a big creamy textured tan colored head rising above. There's great hang time on the head. It settles into a thick, persistent cap. Light chocolate and lighter coffee on the nose. A burnt chocolate immediately as I take the first sip. Let it warm and the bitterness of dark roasted coffee comes through. Slick resiny on tongue. I like the flavors on this one.

I picked this beer up from the Farmer's Market in Downtown Roanoke, VA. It is VERY roasty - roasted malts dominate the flavor. There is some heat - traces of alcohol at the finish. An overall very nice beer. A bit pricey though.

Not bad but then i'm not a real stout person. had a nice aroma of coffee and chocolate. had a very black pour, barely see any light through the beer, has a nice brown head. has a typical stout taste and is a good beer for cold windy Ohio days

As dark as a Siberian night with little head but good lacing. Smells of molasses, tar and anise. Mouthfeel is a touch light for an imp but still full and smooth. Flavors are burnt and roasted malts, tar, leather and molasses. Maybe not the most over the top imp but certainly easy to drink and well balanced, I love it. Thanks to Kinger, great trade Cory.

Pours an opaque black with a small brown head. Head disappears quickly but leaves a thin ring around the glass. Spotty lacing. Smells of strong black coffee and roasted malts. Big big flavour in this beer. Burnt malts, coffee, dark chocolate and smokey wood. Nice warming alcohol flavour. Smooth with a medium to thick mouthfeel.Nice dry finish.Yumm.

via trade with Cory. 2010 batch. lots of roasty toasty aroma and flavor. a little chocolate, licorice, coffee, and a present but slight hoppiness. pretty smooth at 9.7% though more tingly than the Fat Dog. overall, a nice beer, but not one that blew me away as i was hoping it would.

Bottled@Akkurat, Stockholm. Pitch black colour with mediumsized brown foamy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, toffee, some slight chocolaty notes as well as liquorice and some ashes. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, mild toffeeish notes as well as liquorice, ashes and mild notes of vanilla as well. Pleasant balance, easy to sip for a longer while on this...

Yummy, yummy smelling beer with an average look to it. Smooth chocolate that’s not to bitter, ash, sweet malts, mild vanilla, and some coffee all show up in this awesome aroma. Taste is close to the aroma just not as good it seems more average. Bakers chocolate, coffee, zucchini loaf, mild ash and the sweet malts lingers. Alcohol is noticeable but mostly hidden. Good beer aroma is awesome taste seems fairly average for style, nothing bad to say about this brew.

Finally, after two unsuccessful attempts at rating this beer (both met an untimely demise with the ground) I get a chance at redemption and give this one a go (the others smelled really good while mixed with broken shards of glass). I like to think that after drinking this wonderful beer, the people at Thirsty Dog made this beer, just for someone like me.

The beer oozes out of the bottle with a jet black body and a 1/2" dark tan head. Aroma erupts with coffee and chocolate notes, like smelling a cake batter that just had a cup of espresso dumped into it. Anise, vanilla, and molasses really round it out. Flavor bears the weight of the dark chocolate and coffee with ease, never over-the-top and just right I think. Scorched campfire marshmallows, burnt caramel, and molasses just echo the intensity of the flavors. The "3rd time" definitely is a charm.
