St. Feuillen’s centuries old brewing traditions combine with Green Flash Brewing Company’s cutting edge brewing techniques to form our first collaborative brew: Bière De L’Amitié (Friendship Brew). A blond Belgian collaboration ale, brewed with St. Feuillen’s traditional yeast and spices. For a modern twist, we add rye malt, wheat malt, and American Amarillo hops. At the crossroads of collaboration, we dry-hopped the brew for more zest. It’s old-world Belgian Abbey-style meets new-world American craft brewing - and a friendship is formed.

The sample I bought popped like champagne, but at least I didn't get a beer "Old Faithful." Nevertheless, open with care - and be damned careful where you point the bottle because that cork is likely to come shooting out like a bullet! Strong, fruity aroma has banana and apple components, a yeasty underpinning, and hints of malt, wheat and honey. Pours a clear, bright solar yellow with a fluffy and very thick, if not too persistent, white head. Fruity flavor has a strong grassy component, a little like lettuce or spinach that is past its prime, as well as hints of yeast, woody hop bitterness, and honey sweetness. That vegetable component seems to lessen as I drink it, but it does bug me. Sorry, a point off there. Smooth texture has a lively fizz and good body. I love collaboration brews - they may not always be the best, but they're fun to try.

Sampled on 6/18/2011. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a slightly hazy orange gold color from a 750ml corked and caged bottle. Medium sized with foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity and sweet, apricots, rye and spicy. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, apricots, peaches and some tropical flavors. Yeasty and bready. The hops are herbal and spicy. Hints of rye. Good very lively carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
