Fränken Bierausflug, Day#4, Brewery#20, Beer#45. Vom Faß at the brewery, a refreshing change of pace following the two rauchbiers and the very filling meal. A still, hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Light malty nose, very fresh, no hint of smoke. Easy drinking, pleasant mouthfeel. Mild malt and yeast with a slight hop bitterness. A fine, if rather pedestrian, representation of the Franconian kellerbier. I must be getting jaded; the 15th bier of a very long but rewarding day.

Known simply as "U" in Bamberg, this is Sepezial (Spetz) version of landbier/kellerbier, and what a stuner it is. After drinkin the rauch bier, marzen and bock for most of the evening, my partner and I noticed the locals going to hazy deep yellow brew. Nach Zwei Bitte! (two more please) and we got a treat. Very fresh, no smoke at all, super drinkable, yeast dominated, with a hop bite.A yeasty nose and great texture make this a perfect nightcap. Landbiers are known for their freshness and kegs are consumed rapidly, assuring this freshness. I have to wonder what it is like in bottles, but like all of Spetz products, worth seeking out.
