Dollar Bill’s Apex Group takes its name from Dollar Bill’s, a bar and music venue that operated in Kingston’s Prince George Hotel in the 1970s and 1980s, and was best known for hosting blues artists including John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Junior Walker, and many others. The Group formed in 2014 to honour the legacy of Dollar Bill’s and raise funds for UHKF. They’re getting set to present their third benefit concert this spring, and have partnered with Spearhead to brew an accompanying beer. Dollar Bill’s Private Stock Premium Ale (4.9% abv) features “a smooth body with an earthy and floral aroma with slight biscuit & bread notes offering a hint of sweetness at the end.”

Clean, golden-amber colour with a frothy white cap, decent stay and light foamy lacing. Malty nose with some good grassy hops to balance. Hints of spiciness. Straw malt base taste with cereal notes, some spicy touch and mild hops. Crisp mouthfeel with enough dryness, but not overly. Gets a bit hazy as it pours. A refreshing premium ale that seems a blend of amber and blonde with a tad Pilsner.
