Dark ruby red color color and roasted malt flavors. Finishes with a rich caramel and espresso aroma. Oak aged with impressions of vanilla crème, classic crème brûlée and nougat. More oak flavor than our series one, but with creamy intensity.

had a bottle with some age on it. dark red. smells pretty boozy. fruity, with a little chocolate and a touch of hops. mostly sweet with a little oak. a little more oak in the flavor, then more of the same. nice toasted oak flavor as it warms. it's pretty nice but a little too cloying to be worth the $. ST makes better for less.

Bottled@O’Haras. Reddish amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruits, alcohol, mild chocolate, some strong dry hops. Flavour is quite much the same. Quite crappy to be honest.

Dark amber to brown in color with a solid tan cap and spotty/stringy lacing. Musty dark fruits in the aroma with a faint yeasty scent as well as a burnt woodiness. Medium bodied pushing to the lighter side of the spectrum. A touch fizzy, but rather smooth and easy to sip. Toffee and vanilla flavor with some ripe, dark fruit and yeast. A touch woody. Interesting beer.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep copper color ale with a a rather large foamy head with good retention and no much lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some light vanilla. Taste is also very much dominated by some strong sweet with notes of vanilla that are somewhat reminiscent of bourbon. Body is quite full with some good carbonation and no alcohol was apparent. I am not sure what to make of this one, strong sweet malt and vanilla were overpowering and bordering on gross but till somewhat different from the norm and ends up being interesting in the end.

Bottle from SL. The pour was dark copper to brownish, near to nil head and lacing. The aroma was strong oak and vanilla. The flavor followed with some firm oak, vanilla, roasty/ash elements from the barrel presumably, tannins, some caramel and light dark fruity notes in the finish. Body was moderate but a little sticky and undercarbonated. Alcohol was detectable but not harsh.

cheapdark (1777), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA 2 Aroma Appearance Flavor Palate Overall 5/10 4/5 3/10 2/5 6/20 Mar 21, 2009 On tap at the Vintage Estates, really nice place. Looks like rootbeer with a really nice creamy head. Smells fairly good. Initial taste is rather rude for a lager lover. Then, it smooths out a bit thru the session. Must be havving an anestetic effect on the buds. Barely any detectable creamy carbonation, palate is overwhelmed by flavors. Medicinal linger, would not buy again.
