Slaapmutske tripel is a goldenblond beer of top-fermentation with refermentation in the bottle. To brew this beer of 8,1 alcohol Vol% pale and coloured barleymalt is used. The fresh aroma and the spicy taste are due to the use of 2 very aromatic hop varieties. The mouthfeeling is malty and ends in a full-flavored bitter after-taste. The refermentation provides a fine and creamy foam that sticks to the glass.

Somewhat opaque dark yellow with small lacing white foam head. Aroma is typical tripel, taste is nice bitter tripel. A good beer. Aftertaste is short lasting. (Velp 201307)

This is a Fender Roads moment!.. . i have always enjoyed the sleeping cap beers, and this one didn't disappoint .. . deep gold, light hazed .. good foam, tons of good lacing .. . light delicious notes of yeast, some fruit, apricots, dough, and a light hitch of spice .. . very smooth, leaves a nice slick aftertaste.. . good finish .. . I tried this one at the 2008 Max's Belgian Beer Festival in Baltimore, MD. This was the one on the list that I "had to have" when all was said and done. I just loved the name of the beer. Unfortunately, although this was a finely crafted beer, it did not live up to what my mind had thought this beer would be.

When I think of Belgian triples, I think of nice, in your face, you know you are gonna get drunk if you have too much type beers. This one, although it clocked in at 8.1%, seemed like one of those beers that you'd sit out on the back porch in the summer and slam down a few.

First off, this one was light. It poured a very light golden with a hint of orange color into the glass. It had a minimal head and left behind light lacing on the glass. The beer drank smooth and sweet. It has this spring like feel to it, almost floral in some senses. What was weird was it had this hint o' bitterness on the back end that really surprised me. I can't remember the last time I had a triple and it had any bitterness in the back end.

So where does that leave us? Well it's good. I think this one belongs in the beginners category for triples. Case in point, there was some "non-beer drinking females" at the bar and they asked which one they should have based on what I had been drinking. This was the one that I pointed them to and they loved it. They were shocked to find out it was 8.1% alcohol, as was I.

Bottled. Hazy deep golden colour, huge creamy slightly off-white head. Aroma is hops, bread, some spices, caramel and also some slight metallic notes. Flavour is really spicy, quite hoppy and fruity as well as a bunch of licorice. Alcohol is showing itself a little bit by a stinging touch. Hasn't really got any aftertaste at all.

Cork date of 11/10/07, Sampled January 2008 Pours with a frothy, initially four-finger thick, pale tan colored head that has quite a nice textured appearance to it. The beer is a lightly orange'd, gold color and is lightly hazy in appearance. Sweet, pale malt aromatics contributes honey like aromatics, notes of sweet grain and there are aromas reminiscent of orange zest and / or candied orange creams. Other spice notes contribute to the finish and smell of ginger, a touch of sweet phenolics (like clove and something like vanilla) as well as a light, white pepper aromatic. Also becoming noticeable towards the end is a dry, crushed malt note and something that is quite like crushed soda crackers.

Appetizingly dry for a Tripel, but still has a soft, honey like / floral sweetness to it. Quite a bit spicier than the aroma might have suggested (due to the perceived dryness no doubt); I get flavors of old ginger, white-pepper, clove and maybe a hint of citrus zest. Sharp, spicy and a bit hot in the finish; it picks up a certain astringency and heat from higher alcohols in the finish. The beer is quite light feeling, which I definitely like, but it really doesn't seem to leave a lasting impression. Somehow the flavors here just fall flat. There is nothing really wrong with it, but it has not impact on the palate and taste buds.

This is a very aromatic brew, but it does not quite live up to it in the flavor. I do like how light this feels, though it makes it dangerously drinkable, but ultimately it is lacking an impact / lasting impression. The only thing that really lingers is the slightly hot / aggressive higher alcohols.

Just another tripel I found and figured I would try it. First off, the ABV is lower than your average tripel stylistically speaking. Aroma is interesting on this one and I immediately detect yeasty overtones as well as doughey ones with maybe some faint light fruits with slight caramelization and that is about it; it is relatively light in aromas. Appearance is a hazy, golden-orange in color with a very thick and frothy head on top that is creamy and full and a bleach-white in color and diminishes extremely slow; good looking beer here. Mouthfeel is medium to full in body with spicy complexity as well as balance with a palate that is a bit dry-like but then turns to wet-like (probably because of the lower alcohol) and is very pleasant and delicate. Flavor is smooth and of yeastiness as well as doughey overtones with an aftertaste that offers some mild fruit and some peppery spice with a finish that is clean and crisp. Overall, not a bad tripel here and different than some I have had but I like this aspect and is a sipper for sure and worth seeking out. In my opinion this is more like a strong Belgian golden ale as opposed to a tripel, the alcohol and the sugary caramelization is just not there but this still is a quality product.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 8.1%. According to the label it is brewed by Brouwerij Slaapmutske in Melle, but bottled in Lochristi. Original gravity is 16 degrees Plato, IBU is 31. Deep golden to orange colour, slightly hazy. Huge off-white head. Lovely strong aroma of Belgian yeast, fruits and spices, hints of leather. Complex spicy flavour with some fruit in the background. Warming mouthfeel. The aftertaste could have lasted longer, but this is still a very good beer!

Tasted at the 2006 Pizza Port Belgian Fest. This Belgian Triple pours an orange gold color from a 750ml bottle. Small sized head. Aroma is fruity, sweet with lots of peach and apricot. A medium bodied Tripel. Malts are fruity and sweet, lots of apricot and peach flavors. Bright yeasts. Nice smooth taste. Lively carbonation. Nice fruity sweet throughout. Nice solid beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.
