An old-style German hybrid ale, brewed using super-heated river stones to boil the sugary wort which encourages kettle caramelization and enhances malt complexity. Stein Alt is golden in color with an interesting toffee-like malt flavor, paired with fruity aromas and balanced by a moderate dose of whole-cone hops. Clean, complex, and amazingly drinkable.

this had the misfortune of being tasted the same night as the new palate-wrecking black BW from Sierra Nevada, but I also drank half of this before sipping the other, and it was just...incredibly...boring. no complexity whatsoever. not at first, not when it warmed. little to no hop presence, which would be ok, but for the thoroughly one dimensional malt, which got comments like "corn" and "eh". right down there with the crystal wheat as my least favorite SN beer.
