Torpedo Pilsner is a hop-forward take on the crisp classic lager. We and the folks at Firestone Walker share a passion for New Zealand hop varietals, so we loaded our legendary Hop Torpedo with southern hemisphere hops for a fruity, floral twist on the pilsner style. Just down the road from us in California’s Central Coast wine country, this rock star brewery has earned “Mid-size Brewery of the Year” at the World Beer Cup four times. Like us, Firestone is passionate about hops. Their skill with the ingredient shines in their Pale Series and elsewhere in a long beer lineup driven by a premier brewing team.

Sierra Nevada beer #110 is beer #5555! pretty nice pils...easy going but flavorful. aromas of grass and hay. a little more hopped than usual with textbook pilsner flavor underneath. I could drink more of this...

A bright, light orange-yellow sunshine with a big frithy textured white head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. A thin ringlet is left. Typical pils profile both in nose and in tasting. Grassy hops and bready malt. In the tasting as it warms, there is some fruit. Crisp, effervescent. Easy to drink.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear yellow with a big rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet cereal malts and floral noble hops with a little fruit.
The flavor is sweet bready malts with a lot of noble hop bitterness in the finish with some slight metallic notes. Some fruit comes out in the middle as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with slightly spritzy carbonation.
Overall, a nice hoppy pils. A little too sweet and metallic. -

A very good representation of the style....though nothing really stands out. Pilsners are hard for me to rate high. I've had a few slightly maltier than this that I really enjoy. The style just seems a little pale and bland. Good earthly and grassy flavors, just not as hoppy as I expected from the label.

Sampled on 7/10/2104. This Pilsner pours a light to medium gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is cereal, fruity and sweet. The hops are spicy, earthy and floral. Decent carbonation. A crisp and bright, very hoppy pilsner. Touches of melon and tropical fruit, lots of hops, yet a nice malt character. Very nice pilsner. Take note: I think this is how a pilsner is SUPPOSED to taste, or at least I wish this is how pilsners are supposed to taste. Crisp and clean. The hop bitterness lingers in your mouth and lets you know it is there. Very solid beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, crisp and a little dry. Aftertaste is slightly to moderately bitter.
