A real toe-lifter, Snapping Turtle is brewed in the farmhouse tradition using barley malts and both malted and unmalted rye. Not to be overwhelmed by the layered malt profile, brewer-grown Cascade and Chinook hops provide a blast of bitterness to keep the sips in quick succession.

I am a HUGE fan of supporting local brewers. Since moving down to Roanoke, I feel a great way to connect to the area is to drink their beer. I found this gem at Wine Gourmet and boy is it good! This is my favorite kind of IPA inasmuch as it is unfiltered and gritty - you can see the hops and the filth of the beer swimming in the uncapped bottle. As you open it, you are blasted with pine, grapefruit, grass, and floral notes. The flavor tracks the aroma to a tee. The beer not only laces the glass but the unfiltered hops stick to your teeth - you can scratch them off! I really enjoyed this beer - it is the best of the local beers that I have had. I will try the other Shooting Creek beers enthusiastically and I will have this again too!
