831 is a classic example of the modern American India Pale Ale. A simple malt bill provides a showcase for bold, citrus, dank hop flavors and enticing aromas. Each sip is clean and dry allowing for the pure expression of American grown hops including Magnum, Columbus, and Citra. Unabashedly aggressive and yet satisfying. 831 is our ode to the brash grace and herbal beauty of humulus lupulus.

Tasted at the 16th Bistro IPA Festival on April 6, 2013. This IPA pours a slightly cloudy orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet, floral and citrusy. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and citrusy. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. Medium to high bitterness. Nice residual bitterness. Slightly dry finish. Crisp and clean. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Poured up on tap at SARA, in the company of many great ratebeerians visiting for RBWG16, where it exhibits a nice hop hazy glowing copper body that supports an off white head of foam. The aroma offers up an inviting blend of grapefruit, tangerine and pine hops. The taste is lovely as I get bitter pine heading quickly into spicy bitter dank onion notes to midway just as it gets juicy with ripe clementine and bitter juicy grapefruit. Wow! Solid IPA. If I had the time and money I might be able to drink myself into a beer coma with this stuff. It’s coma good ™. 831 the newish area code. Cool.
