Part of their mixed Cabin 12-pack purchased in Vermont. Pour a clear light copper with golden highlights. Warm cap with good retention and lacing. Caramel malt aromas with dark fruit notes and hints of nuts. Wet mouthfeel with a nice dryish finish. Smoked malt taste giving whiskey notes. Some dark fruits and decent hops. Hints of wood even. A better than average Scotch ale. Quite liked this one.

pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head with nice lacing. The aroma is of roasted malt with a tiny bit of an alcohol scent. The taste has a slight malty sweetness at the beginning fading into a toasted flavor and finishes with a nice balance of the flavors. The mouthfeel was smooth and refreshing.

I love this brew. The smoke peet that is included and the body is jsut a cut above the rest. The mouthful is slighly harsh but leave the Ale open for a few minutes and the flavor tranforms into an explosion of "oh" that was interesting. I have been on the prowl for a long time for this bu only find it in the brewmaster pack.

Excellent example of a Scottish ale. I smelled hints of spices in the aroma, and the taste was almost rauchbier-ish with smoky hints. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone.

This brew poured a dark amber with a small off-white head. The aroma is malt and caramel. The flavor was sweet malts and smoke. Thin mouthfeel. Overall, quite drinkable but there are better available.

I don't think I was ready for this beer as it was my first scotch ale and it wasn't one of my favorite types of beer. Reddish pour with off-white head. Bitter chocolate flavor with lots of smoke flavor coming through. I will give it a try again down the road.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12 oz. bottle. The freshness date is October 2009. The pour is a dark copper with two fingers' head. Retention and lacing are decent. The nose is subtle but full of dark fruits and earthy tones. The taste is more of the same, with some toffee throughout. It begins sweetly and progresses to bitter by the end, with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium-to-heavy with a certain amount of stickiness and a lot of carbonation. Drinkability is okay, but I am not too sad that there are only two bottles in the pack. It's a decent beer, but it's not something I would go out of my way to find. If offerred one, I certainly wouldn't refuse.

Aroma of malts, and caramel. A deep, dark amber body, good carbonation, with a off white cap that leaves decent lace. Flavor was a little off for me, i got mostly a weird malty, peat flavor, with a barley noticeable smoke aftertaste. It wasnt as sweet as most scotch ales, which wasnt a bad thing, but a little would have been nice. Overall it was decent and worth a try, but i found it a little odd.

Poured nice dark amber color with very little head. Well carbonated and medium lacing. This one had a very good aroma, but the first taste was a bit disappointing, and the mouthfeel suffered. The overall flavor was ok at best, after the initial overly smoky initial mouth taste. I probably will not be trying this one again.

ths one's a slight miss frm good ol' Sammy. It's got a nice, easy drinking quality to it, and all the qualities are there, just at a lower level than the really good ones. A little more oomph, and I'd give it a better rating. The session beer of scotch ales.
