Holy mother of God was this stuff brutal. Very alcoholic and not very beerlike. It had a lot of overt sweetness in it, a lot of spirit-like consistency. Just not a great beer in my opinion. I don't think anything more than my 2 ounces would have changed my mind. Note: I was unaware this beer was almost a decade old.

Sampled this at a party - certainly not something I could afford myself Bottle is 5 years old. Colour - viscous, reddish brown, cloudy, no head. Aroma - alcohol...alcohol, butterscotch, and licorice. Mouthfeel - thick, creamy, smooth. Flavour - very sweet, caramel, candy sugary. Overall - an excellent rare treat.

This review was done from bottles #2387, #2388, and #2389 which were a gift from the brewery to a private work function I attended in late 2009. I was allowed 2 shot glasses full. It was cloudy brown and viscous. The aroma was sweet malt, hints of vanilla, and alcohol. The flavour was caramel, maple, vanilla, and alcohol. It doesn't sound good as written, but it was an experience.

I bought the only bottle at my liquor store. A perfect 5. This beer is almost a fine spirit, and I could tell right away that this was going to be a special beer. This warmed me up on the inside, and made a lasting impression. I still have the bottle, it's sitting on the shelf, in my bottle collection,

Mad props to Egajdzis (Eric) for sharing this beauty. More like a port than a beer but I drank it and loved it so it must be beer. The flavors I get are vanilla, maple, a bit of brandy and caramel. Jim Koch is still a visionary. I’d love to see more breweries add something like this to their arsenals.

Wow, I was honored to share a bit of this from egajdzis's bottle #133. The container alone is worth more than any other beer i've had. It looks like a humidor! The beer was reddish brown with no noticable carbonation. The aroma and flavor was very sweet. Just about no hops presence in this beer. Howere, it wasn't as sweet and cloying as often other high abv beers are. I was truly impressed. A single sniff warned you of the high alcohol content, but the liquid gave little proof of this until after it was swallwed, where it then lined my insides with immense warmth. Flavors of raisin, plum, vanilla, and maple syrup dominated and I don't regret any of it. That's tough to do for a beer of this strength.

Bottle 133 / 3000. Poured a hazy brownish red color with no head. When swirled in the snifter it did coat the glass nicely.Aroma of vanilla, caramel and molasses. The alcohol tingled my eyes and nose hairs. Sweet taste of toffee, honey, butterscotch, cinnamon, and molasses. Strong raisin taste with a warm alcohol finish.
