JLS Release #6: Schwarzbier ~ which translates to Black Beer, is a German lager, very dark brown in color with a tan colored head. Coffee aromas mingled with nutty malt and a touch of caramel grace the nose. The palette is rich, smooth and clean, very malty with roasted notes apparent. The finish is lingering with a touch of residual sweetness and very mildly bitter. Specifications: Schawrtzbeir is brewed with Palt Malt, Crystal 60, Munich, Carafoam special; German tradition & Oregon grown Sterling hops. Lagered for 6 weeks after it is attenuated with Czech Pilsner yeast. This beer is unfiltered ~ Prost!

Sampled on tap at Portland's Rogue Public House. Pours black with thick, dense brown head. Roasty aroma with a little chocolate and even less piney-floral hopping. Nutty malt flavor with light coffee notes (not nearly as overpowering as some schwarzbiers) and a nice clean, bitter finish. Medium bodied and well carbonated.

Sampled on draft at Rogue Public House, Portland. Pours blackened-brown with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is dominated by roasted malts. Slighly bitter flavor with chocolate and toasted bread. Dry, crisp finish. Very drinkable and very good for the style.

Served on tap at the Rogue pub on the Newport harbour front. Nice looking beer , though it appears to be slightly too chilled, dark brown with a small tan frothy head. A nice enough ( though subdued due to the coldness) malty aroma with hints of hop. Quite nice taste, its very malty and roasty , but has a great hop kick near the end of the mouthful. Great after taste on this one goes on for quite some time. I liokedthe mouthfeel on this quite nice and smooth for a schwartz. Good beeer and quite drinkable stuff !

Poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, roast, and light butteriness. Taste of caramel and roasted malts up front, chocolate, nuts, and smoked peat (very scotch-like), finishes lightly bitter.
