This is another fine offering by Rogue. Pours a nice brown with a decent light tan head. Smooth mouthfeel and a good balance between the rich malt flavor and the hoppiness. Definitely worth a try!

It took some time for me to come around on this beer. It really does change quite significantly as it warms. My first thoughts was that this was just an undefined hoppy beer (just bitterness without any flavor). But the sweet malts finally poked it's head out and decided to assert itself after awhile, and thankfully so. Still, I felt a little let down by the beer. Sure there was the hops, and the malt but so little character. It was drinkable, but I think Rogue can do better. At least I'd like to think they could do better. Not a stinker, but not their best either.

Bottle courtesy of Indybigtom: Poured a deep cloudy brown ale with a thick foamy head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma of West Coast hops is easily discernable with some huge caramel notes. Taste is also dominated by some bitter citrusy Pacific hops with some notes of caramel and toffee and some medium sweet malt. Full body with some average carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I was expecting a Belgian style ale but instead I got this hybrid beer which is a frustrating and more or less successful experiment.

Pours to a large foamy perfect tan head at 3 fingers a on top of a deep brown body with ruby amber notes. Leaves a bit of lace. Aroma is fresh and hoppy: a grassy, lightly herbal quality dominates with an undertone of fresh-bread buttery malts. Tastes malty, with lots of caramel and toffee, but with also a bit of a hop attack, with plenty of citrus fruits, along with lots of tropical fruits.

This is a good beer, but I'm rating it lower because of the expectations created by the name. If this is supposed to be a Belgian-style ale, it's smothered by New World-style hopping. Cloudy amber brown with a very thin cap. Mild bittersweet fruit aroma, mostly sweet, with lemon and bread. The scent is not very strong. There are good flavors, notably chocolate, coffee, bread, and a faint trace of cinnamon. Warmer temps reveal a rich deep flavor and some balance. But overall the eucalyptus flavored hops are unrelenting, making it hard to enjoy.

Unique offering from Rogue, what an enjoyable bomber this turned out to be. Funky little aroma of sweet mealy malt, reminiscent of canned malt extract. Light brown sugar sweetness as well, the aroma is quite complex and soft. Murky amber-brown pour with a thin filmy tan head and a blanket of lacing. Silky and warm on the palate, this ones exceptionally smooth. Slight alcohol effect on the gums, mouth feel is really inviting. Plenty of malts contribute to a wonderful flavor. Burnt caramel and molasses flavors as well. The Belgian influence is noticed by some faint candy sugars and sweet dark fruit. There is a touch of grassy earthiness hidden in there. The American influence is also noticed by a heavy hop infusion, nice and floral and ever so bitter. This is one of my favorites by Rogue.

Thanks to ~welder~ for trading this to me. Pours with a huge soft foamy head (ultimately settling into an iceberg in the middle of the glass) that leaves blobs of thick lacing on the glass. The lightest, softest carbonation in this thick beer really makes it a delight to drink. A little bitterness rises in the aftertaste, and then subsides away into a nice, dry finish. Smells delicious (though weak): like toffee and roasted something-or-other, with some alcohol notes under it. I swear I keep tasting flashes of plums and chocolate, with some sweet toffee/caramel-esque flavors. Rogue could have laid back on the grapefruity hops a little though...as I move into the bottom of the bottle, it tends to dominate the other flavors. As a result I can see why this is classified as a strong ale, despite the name suggesting something more Belgian oriented.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy purplish-brown color with a medium light-brown head. Sweet aroma of alcohol, malts, and toffee. Flavor is a bitter blend of grapefruit, toffee, and pine. Not one of my favorite strong ales, but not bad. Might not buy again for the price.

Better then average looking beer but kind of boring, brown no visible floaties, with half inch of head and had amazing retention. Aroma is sweet but also bitter there is very mild but very noticeable alcohol, the warmer it got a sour wood like aroma starts to appear. I think I just figured out that the sourness is hops. I like this aroma it’s not over powering or even that good its complex and interesting, I’ve been sniffing for 25 minuets now. Mouth feel is light and crisp and has some very nice carbonation. Tasty bitterness very mild hoppiness and great tasting malts, lots of earthy tones with a mild alcohol finish, light and refreshing sweet and crisp. I like this brew you can drink it any time but its still dark and flavor full. Review done while watching Canada’s worst handy man.

Poured into my Chimay galss. Beautiful brownish pour with a creamy tan head. Chocolatey-tofee-earthy aroma. Taste hints at some dried dark fruits. A malty, semi-sweet delicious concoction. Rogue somehow manages to make a malty beer still have a nice hoppy aftertaste. A very good brew IMO.
