First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Pizza Port in Solana Beach, Hop 15 was imagined and designed by Tomme Arthur and Jeff Bagby. It was to be a celebration of 15 years of "Good Beer Brings Good Cheer." So there are 15 different hop varieties that are added to the beer every 15 minutes. Over the years, Hop 15 has racked up numerous accolades. It has won two silver medals at the Great American Beer Festival. It also was named Alpha King in 2004 and received a first place award at the Bistro Double IPA beer festival in Hayward, CA. Hop 15 remains won of the stickiest most resinous beers we have ever tasted and for that, we are thankful it is on tap at our brewery each and every day. The beer poured a murky golden orange colour with a foamy tan coloured head that stuck to the sides of the glass. The aroma was pine, citrus, grapefruit, and some butterscotch. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was bitter grapefruit, some grain, and slight sweetness. A very enjoyable beer.

On Tap @ O’Brien’s. Murky, brackish, dirty brown color with thin tan head. Aroma is light with hop notes mixed with a snipped of malts. Tastes just as it looks. I’ve brewed many a beer that looks just like this. Feels right at home. Chewy caramel maltiness mixed with a pine, slightly citrus, slight green (wet) hoppiness. Great mix. Refreshing brew for an IIPA.

Wow..... Nice copper color with a small amount of cloudiness, with a light colored head. The aroma hits you hard with the first sip hitting harder! By the time it hits the back of the mouth it smooths out and finished nicely. I love this beer. I know I said the Port Brewing Wipeout IPA was one of the best IPA’s I’ve had, but Hop-15 is twice as good (DIPA).

Bottle at Toms Ultimate Glasgow Tasting: Poured a copper amber color with a bubbly head. The aroma was that of pine and hops. The taste was very lively and the hops made me want more. I was super impressed with this IIPA!

Huge thanks again to slowrunner77 for this. Hazy orange hue with a thick and sticky cream colored head that clings nicely to the glass. Pine and grapefruit on the nose, prototypical west coast IPA. Floral and spicy up front with hints of orange and lemon finish insanely bitter. Truly a joy, and the hidden ABV is scary. Thanks again, Chris!!

Recently sampled at a friend's pig roast / tasting. No idea of the bottles age, but this beer didn't thrill me at all. Near lifeless dark golden pour with a filmy head. Pungent citrus with some evergreen and a hint of biscuits. Fairly balanced and drinkable, but nothing eye opening.

Aroma is SERIOUSLY hoppy - hops and evergreen scent scamper up your nose even before you can take a good whiff. Just like smelling fresh-cut pine wood, except for the firm undertone of sour orange. Pours a lovely clear amber with a fairly thick off-white head that leaves some good lacing. Overwhelmingly evergreen flavor makes this beer taste like a liquid pine tree. Bitterness is strong but not vicious. There is also an undertone of citrus and a whisper of honey sweetness. Firm-bodied texture is quite fizzy and lively, leaving a persistent and very hoppy tingle. This beer is a must for all "hop heads."

Not one of the top of the line IIPAs but still a worthy entry. It has the right appearance, hazy burnt orange with white head, and the aroma, huge citrus nose. It lacks in body, mouthfeel and flavor. It starts with a juicy citrusy flavor that turns to some pine and a lot of alcohol warmth as you swallow. Overall a great beer but for the style not a front runner.

Jan. 2010 - Light color with some head. This one is super citrus and a fairly high level of bitterness. Despite this, the mouthfeel was as smooth as drinking water, yet not flat and unappealing. Pretty good.

Received a couple of bottles from friends in California a couple of months back. The beer pours a frothy orange gold before settling into a beautiful cloudy orange gold topped by a thin white head. Lots of citrusy hops in the aroma with some pine and sweet malts. The flavour is full with grapefruit, caramel, and spices.
