A hearty meat 'n' potatoes Irish-style ale. Its malty sweetness coats the palate like candy, and is offset in the finish with spicy Goldings hops. First brewed in March 1996 for the Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews. The recipe was developed with the help of the Algonquin’s chef and was originally referred to as “The Algonquin Red,” but we had to change it because some other Algonquin beer existed. We then called it “Finian Irish Red,” but our Irish friends didn’t like it, so it finally became Picaroons Irish Red.

This beer is my first review becauase it kicks ass!!!!!!!! I love beer and I have never had a better one than this. I don't know all the lingo but here goes... The sweet aroma gets your mouth watering before you dive in to the best beer ever!!!! Flavour is what I would call strong but is dry and very refreshing. Tastes good served ice cold on a hot day or room temperature in the winter, after you've shoveled your driveway. If you visit New Brunswick Canada, stop by Fredericton and have 1 (dozen), you'll be glad you did. Shout out to chopz.

Thanks to Nic for bringing this one back from his East Coast trip. Second Irish Ale of the day. Pours a clean copper-amber colour with a big frothy warm beige head that lasts very long creating some thick foamy-creamy lace. Caramel nose with lost of spices. Again, caramel malt taste with some sourness (probably from not being fresh). Medium-light oily body. Much better than the one I had earlier. Have to try a fresh one when I visit. Cheers McGee !!

500 ml brown bottle, label as pictures above. Dark amber color with gold holights, tan foamy head. 1/4 inch of foam lasts the whole glass. It smelled fruity and earthy, with a little bit of toffee. Grassy flavor to start, a bit of fruitiness, mango tang, bitter hop finish. Lots of carbonation, actually starts a bit watery feeling but does fill the mouth.

A very nice take on a traditional Irish Red. Still a little sweeter then their Irish cousins this is a great beer. very smooth on the attack with a nice aftertaste. Good mix of mellow and smooth for an Irish. Recommended

A huge, suddy foam and big bubbles cling as lacing. Clear, but very deep in colour. Brown really, with some copper red. Not much as far as aroma goes, but maybe a gentle coat of amber malt. A surpringly tasty first sip. Crisp water. A great, clean drinking red ale, which I find is often rare. I don't where they put the Kent Goldings, but this beer did fine without anyways. Aside from a slight bitterness, this isn't much of anything. Still a good, clean drinking pint and on par with other good Picaroons offerings. They've done a fair and simple - but good - job with a style that is so often lifeless and flat.
