Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

A black appearance with a nice tan head. The aroma is contains a lot of coffee, chocolate, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor contains some cocoa powder, coffee, and a hint of alcohol. Overall a well balanced nice impy stout.

Bottled. Very deep brownish amber colour, close to black, with mediumsized brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some slight hoppyness, vanilla and oak. Flavour is roasted malts, syrup, nectar, wood, mild tar and also some slight vanilla.

Bottle shared by slob. Poured a nice rich deep dark black, choco-colored head. Aroma was rich and excellent, dark fruits, vinous notes, chocolate, general sweetness. The flavor followed the aroma, licorice started to appear later in the beer. A fair amount of residual sugars going on, a little too sweet and sticky to be excellent. Better attenuation, a few more hops and/or more carbonation would all have bumped this up a little more, perhaps in with the elite at that point. A very nice impy stout, though, enjoyable. Thanks, Bert, for sharing!

This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy and floral. It has all those other flavors in here as well. some leather, smoke, some vanilla, and perhaps some soy. Nicely balanced Imperial Stout. Mouthfeel is soft and round, very nice. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

A fine example of an Imperial Stout Aroma: The aroma is a complexity of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, and figs
Appearance: This is another black beer. Not much head on the sample I tried, but it stuck around until the finish.
Mouthfeel: This is a thick full bodied brew that coats the entire mouth with flavour.
Flavour: A beautiful mixture of malt and dark fruits makes for an easy to drink Imperial Stout
Overall: This beer is worth travelling for.......

Sampled June 2006: Draft on the Hand Pump!!! WOW!!! This my be one of the all time best Imperial stouts I’ve ever had! The aroma makes a great first impression. Very mellow scent with a pleasant malt appearance. The look is fanatastic in a snifter. Very gracious head that stays until near the end. Very dark, awesome looking. Flavor is not bursting with flavor but mild and Extremely Pleasant! This is like tranquility in a snifter. Very peaceful with a perfect balance of malt and low bitterness. I think this is the best brew that I’ve had from Charlie at Otto’s. At this rate he will need to bottle these fine brews to rival the other heaveyweights. Triple Cheers!!!
