Otter Creek Winter Ale will be available this winter from November through January. The new special release is a smooth brown ale, with a touch of raspberry. Rich and toasty with a warming body and light hops, this will be a malty and perfectly fruited beer- very appealing and comforting. Just right for wintertime.

Presentation: It was poured from12oz brown bottle into a pint glass. There is a bottled on date. Appearance: The body has a dark appearance with good clarity and very deep brownish amber color. On top there is a huge light tan head that has great retention. It lasts all the way to the last sip slowly fading down to thin cap along the way. Also it makes for some cool splotchy lacing on the glass. Smell: The aroma has notes raspberries and rich lightly roasted malt. Taste/Mouth Feel: The base of the flavor is a sweet, lightly roasted malt with light buttery, bready and raspberry that adds a little tartness. Hop flavor is very light and understated. It has a solid medium body and its carbonation is light on the tongue with a smooth almost creamy feel. Notes: Overall I thick this is a very solid beer.

The use of raspberries in dark beers has always seemed like a good combination to me due to how well the flavors compliment one another, and this offering reinforces my preference. Aromas of fruity, fermented raspberries and nutty, burnt/roasted malts. Dark cherry/mahogany pour producing a thin, bubbly head and moderate lacing. Medium to light bodied with a solid balance. Not too hearty, but not overly sweet. Dry, tart raspberry flavor, and it tastes like the right amount was used. The raspberries show themselves then slowly walk away to make room for flavors of coffee, nuts, and roasted malt. A quiet bitter aftertaste is coupled with a hint of chocolate. An enjoyable and friendly beer.
