Oskar Blues has released a special draft-only seasonal beer for the winter months. Ten FIDY Imperial stout is a titanic wonder of a stout, immensely viscous, and loaded with neck-deep flavors of chocolate, malt, coffee, cocoa and oats. It’s the beer equivalent of decadently rich milkshake made with Whoppers malted-milk balls and Heaven’s best chocolate ice cream. Ten FIDY is about 10% ABV and is made with enormous amounts of two-row malts, chocolate malts, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY’s huge-but-comforting flavors hide a whopping 98 IBUs that are deftly tucked underneath the beer’s mountains of malty goodness.

The beer pours a solid black colour and a vigourous pour created a bubbly 1” head that receded to a thin film within a couple of minutes. The aroma is roasted malt, smoked malt, soy sauce, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is full bodied, well carbonated, and very creamy. The flavour is roasted malt, dark chocolate, and peppery spice. Maybe even a hint of coffee. The beer came with quite a reputation and it lives up to it. An excellent beer. -

Can (newly available in Ontario). Colors - a solid black pour, similar to a thin motor oil, creamy brown head. Aroma - roasted malt, vanilla. Mouthfeel - thick and creamy. Overall - a very bitter beer. While good, needed some more 'sweetness' to cut through the bitterness.

Pours a real dark brown colour with a huge frothy-creamy head, mocha-coloured, everlasting with some patchy spot lacing. Burnt malt aromas from the roasted malts with some hints of liquorice, nuts, chocolate, coffee and green leaves. The taste is mostly the roasted malts with some hops in the finish. Decent bitterness comes out of this. Some notes of burnt wood. A pretty smooth Imperial Stout with lots of hops, but nothing over-the-top special.

355ml can from LCBO. Pours a freaking huge frothy brownish head that sticks around for quite awhile and has a deep dark brown appearance, almost pitch black. Tons of sticky dirty lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee. Flavours are practically the same as aromas, just attacking the tastebuds, lots of chocolate, coffee and spices all around. Very rich and sweet but definitely not offensive. Full bodied mouthfeel, excellent retention. Nice smooth and creamy sensation on the palate. This is like a dessert beer but easily drinkable and doesn't overstay its welcome, meaning more than one after the other is easily attainable. Hard to believe this one's 10.5% abv. So good. Wish I would've picked up more. Great brew!

This is a very tasty dark beer, best served by itself, no food. When you're in the mood for a satisfying brew, this fits the bill. Aroma is on the soy sauce side (meaning you have to be a dark beer lover to get into this) but there is a slight hint of coffee/chocolate, but not much. Appearance, the foam goes away fairly quickly, so you're not going to get the thick, long lasting head like a more carbonated lager style. This one quickly fades into a glass of what could pass as straight black coffee. Mouthfeel is excellent, everything one would want in a beer. Oily texture, slightly silky, but a little grating on the tongue from the carbonation, so there's substance. Flavor is fantastic. I get black coffee, not bitter. I get dark chocolate, also not bitter. The dark, soy taste remains as a tail, but it's very smooth, and in the end you're ready for another sip, so drinkability is rather high with this beer. Some dark beers are unbalanced and you need a break between gulps, but this one is very easy to just keep going. Overall I give this a 9, it's basically a perfect dark beer, and strong alchohol is a nice touch, all it's missing is the presentation of a thick, long-lasting head. Not complaining, this is the best on my list of session dark beers. Highly, highly recommended :)

Pours from the can with an opaque black body topped off by a medium brown head that leaves light lace. Aroma is huge espresso, cocoa and alcohol. Mouthfeel is very full bodied, oily. Flavor is burnt malts, rich espresso, vanilla bean with faint dark fruit in the finish. Phenomenal beer.

Pours out 100% pitch black with a beautiful dark brown head. The aroma is of heavy malt and hops. The mouthfeel is EXTREMLY thick. The taste is out of this world. This is absolutely fantastic.

Absolutely black light brown lacing foam. Bitter chocolate aroma, bitter cold coffee taste, some chocolate notes, little cheese. Lasting coffee aftertaste. (Houston 201408)

Pours a deep, opaque sable with minimal, fine-bubbled tan head. Rich, mocha-like aroma is just a bit sweet and a little smoky, and very appetizing. Superb coffee and chocolate flavor is mouth-filling and delicious, smoky and lively. Texture is thick and tingly so it satisfies on the way down the pipes.

A dark brown pour with a foamy tan head that shrinks and covers the top of the stout and clings to the sides of the glass for the entire time of consumption, which was about 35 minutes. The aroma is captivating. Coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt with a hint of vanilla. Coffee and chocolate dominate the taste on the onset, with the roasted maltiness and a mild bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is thick and full which fits this beer perfectly. Not sure how many of these I could drink due to the 10.5% abv, which surprisingly barely noticeable. A bit pricy, but this is certainly a treat for anyone who likes a solid Imperial Stout. Recommended.
