Valar Morghulis: Ommegang and HBO® announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration series. Through its first four seasons, the critically acclaimed drama has become the biggest show on HBO. In the world of Westeros, Valar Morghulis means “all men must die.” Fans of the hit HBO show chose the foreboding phrase as the name of the newest beer in the Game of Thrones® collaboration between HBO and Brewery Ommegang. As part of a Facebook poll, fan voting determined the style and name of the next beer. An Abbey Dubbel was selected and it is perfectly represented by the “two- headed” coin given to Arya Stark by Jaqen H’ghar, one of the “Faceless Men of Braavos” – legendary assassins with the ability to change their appearances at will.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Muddy copper with a tall, frothy tan head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with caramel, sweet malt, dark fruits, candi sugar and yeast notes. Taste is sweet malt, dark fruit, candi sugar, caramel, light cocoa and Belgian yeast. Body is medium with a strong, prickly carbonation. Ends with more caramel, dark fruit, sweet malt, dark bread, candi sugar and yeast. Not bad.

Pours a clear chestnut with a thick, though effervescent, tan head. Fruity, malty aroma has a bit of an alcohol nip. Flavor has notes of pear, cherry, and caramel, with snips of malt and resiny hops. Mouthfeel has OK fizz and viscosity. Valar Drinkaeris.

Pours a dark amber colour, almost copper, with a frothy beige head, good retention and some nice fluffy lacing. Aromas of dark fruits (plums, raisins), caramel, farm yeast and with time, lots of fresh apples. There is a sharp weird hop bites in the taste over the fruits and caramel malts. It gives the mouth a metallic feel which is not as good. Hints of bananas from the yeast in the aftertaste. Not the best Dubbel, but overall not bad. Just not one I would have again, but glad to have tried.

Pours an insane amount of frothy beige head and has a dark amber appearance. Lacing is pretty thick and dirty. Aromas of yeast, barley malts, and spices. Flavours are mostly sweet and toasty malts with some yeasty notes. Full bodied mouthfeel. Alcohol fairly well hidden but still packs a bit of a punch.

Mahogany coloured pour with a beauty head and excellent lacing. Fruity and yeasty aroma. Medium smooth mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet caramel malt and toffee to start. Plums, raisins, cherry with some yeast and spice. Very good and well worth the try (more than once).

The beer pours a deep mahogany colour with a rocky tan coloured cap. The aroma is yeast, plums, brown sugar, and alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is plums, molasses, caramel, yeast and dark malt. Quite enjoyable. -

A dark mahogany colored beer with a big creamy textured beige head rising robustly above. There's good hang time on the head. It settles into a medium thick ringlet. A lot of alcohol in the profile. Malty, brown sugar, dark fruit. Medium bodied and slick on the tongue.

Pours out two inches of dark brown fluild with 5 inches of thick long lasting tan head. The aroma is heavy and strong of alcohol. The taste is pretty plain when serve red cold. However as it warms up it turns into a malt & yeast party.* shake the hell out of the last two ounces to loosen the sediment. It increases the aroma and sweetens the taste.
