A Belgian, a hophead, an alcoholic, and a sous chef walk into a bar . . . Sound like a joke? Well our beer is the punch line. Belgians are noted for their creative beers with complex flavor profiles that balance flavors from yeast, hops, malt, alcohol, and other flavors. Perpetual Darkness taps this creative energy and puts a lot of twists on the traditional IPA. An American IPA has a lot of hops and showcases them often to the degree that most else is buried in the hops flavors. Not Perpetual Darkness. With over 70 IBUs, one would expect a bitter hoppy beer, but Perpetual Darkness balances the hops with the complexity of the darker malts, alcohol and esters, and a Belgian yeast that loves this cocktail. Leave your expectations behind as you enjoy this blend of six sweet malts, four flavorful hops, and complexities that the Belgian monks would appreciate.

    Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

12 oz can. Pours light brown with a small tan head that quickly goes to a thin collar the leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet perfumey chocolate malts with some dark fruit.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts, dark fruit and some cardboardy bitter roast with an alcohol bite. The mouthfeel is a little thin and watery.

    Overall, too sweet and thin.
