This beer used to be on tap from North Bay to Port Arthur. Northern ale was the beer we sucked back at the Timmin’s maple leaf tavern watching “Stompin’ Tom” come off the floor . Whenever I biked through the North Country this beer was in the saddle bags. This stuffs been around since before the 60s and a couple of generations of Northerners relate to this beer. Since the brewey was taken over and they took their water from different sources, this beer has undergone some periodic changes. What is being offered now is the best they can do with the recipes they have but the process is wanting. This is NOT the Northern that wrested the North Country taverns from Labatts and Molson’s. This stuff pours a pale gold with lots of carbonation. Little suggestion of hop or grain smell...what I got wafted up with a lot of carbonation. Light head that leaves quickly. A great tart, crisp start but this fades as the mouth is filled with a heavily adjunct tastes (for a light ale) and a finish that has a lingering synthetic sweet taste….not what I like in a mega golden ale.

Local made ale from Northern Ontario Canada. Poor taste overall unless served over chilled to kill the taste. Cheaply made and a favourite of the lower working class. Pale and faded with a hard alcohol/chemical aftertaste. Not one to present to you friends while watching "the game".
