Drummond Hill cemetary is just down Lundy's Lane from our brewery. In July 1814 nearly 2,000 British, Canadian and American soldiers were killed or wounded in the Battle of Lundy's Lane. The Battle of Lundy's Lane fought on the site. The cemetary is said to be one of Niagara's most haunted places and our Dark Ale is named after that dark point in our region's history. The Drummond Hill Dark Ale is a dark colored but mild tasting ale brewed from pure Canadian malted barley and small amounts of European roasted malts and Bullion hops. Its dark color comes from the natural darkness of the malts – but its tastes surprisingly light.

On tap and growler: Pours a dark brown hazed ale in the glass smallish tan cap, laces well. Low carbonation. Aroma mild caramel, roasty, cocoa dark fruits, grassiness. Profile: Soft mouth feel, mild character with lots of flavour: caramel, roast cocoa, figs bit of roasty charred husk, demure earthy hopping compliments but does not dominate, wet clean finish light cocoa aftertaste. NOT a Newcastle style brown but a verifiable micro brown with tons of nutty-roasty-cocoa flavour without too much sweetness and a judicious use of hops. Well done. This one’s a winner.
