Glad to have the chance to sample this. Blue bottle I guess is better than blue b.....Anyways. A brown appearance with no carbonation. A yeasty aroma. The flavor showcases the booze er alcohol and also displays some chocolate and caramel. Maybe some licorice in there. Aftertaste was sweet. Overall a good beer.

09.19.04 Corks exits with little fuss, little noise. Pours a cola brown with NO head; head cannot be encouraged even by swirling, even in etched Duvel glass. Aromas are caramel/candy sugar, prune, licorice, dark berry. My first thought is triple bock light, my second thought is, ’what is this supposed to be?’ Body is oily but rather thin; alcohol is burning on the lips and gums. It’s quite nasal. Flavors vinous, port-like. Strong old fig and raisin. Alcohol is dominant throughout. Finish is wet, warming; burns. Crazy stuff, I hope it’s still good tomorrow because I wasn’t about to drink it all tonight. If it’s not the best, it’s certainly the most interesting RI brew.

This is an unbelievable brew out of Rhode Island. Although the bottle goes for $10-12, it is definitely worth it. When this beer warms to near room temperature, incredible flavors come out. It is comparable to a strong dopple bock. This is the strongest lager I've ever come in contact with. I'm currently hoarding a couple bottles and cellaring them. A year or so in the cellar should do crazy incredible things to this brew.-------------Update: trying this again February 22, 2005. This has really done well sitting in the cellar. Pours almost flat, with thin whisps of carbonation floating on top. Dark red mahogany color, with quite a bit of haze. Aroma is sweet figs, chocolate, and some oxidation. Flavor starts with sweet chocolate and caramel, then comes big with figs, prunes, and dates soaked in alcohol, molasses, and chocolate. Bits of oxidation actually compliment the flavors, and never seem out of place. This has truely blossomed into something greater than it had started (and yes, the 4.9 review was from my inital review of the fresh stuff).
