A Complex and intriguing original. The mystery began with wild yeast spontaneously fermenting a rich treasure of malted barley and whole cherries. Unlined oak casks breathe deep vanilla hues and chords of smoke into this sour brown ale. Our Master Brewer has forged a smooth garnet tapestry that defies description. Wander off the beathen path.

I must have hit a bad one but the 2 guys with me all agreed. This beer couldnt get past its overpowering oak flavor. I noted a bit of vanilla, but it was shortlived because of the feel of drinking a mouth full of oak shavings. I know it is aged in oak barrels, but really, I have had beers aged in oak barrels before and the oak compliments the flavor. With this beer it just takes it over and leaves nothing to the imagination. It poured to a slightly amber color with little head. Would I try it again... we all agreed.. no.

Above average and intriguing. Part of me says soda pop made out of pickle juice and part of me says battery acid and part of me says who put the seltzer water in my German white wine? Some cream of tartar notes. The mouthfeel is the most distinct - a combo of champagne, alka seltzer and alum. Head is greenish white and fades fast. Reddish brown.

Courtesy of Bluesandbarbq, I've been wanting to try this for a while now and Lou sent me one without me even asking...now that's some serious beer esp happening right there folks. Low carbonated amber brown body with a very thin head. Scents of tart cherries, mildly smoked wood, and vanilla. Flavor is big on sour cherry with a sweet kick followed by a touch of wafer cookie and wood. No sourness in the malt, but a well rounded tartness. A very good fruit beer (even if I was hoping for a wildly sour beer).

Unlike any other beer I can think of. Not so sour as a typical Sour, if that makes sense, but very tasty. Color is hazy amber, with an effervesant head. This beer will turn you onto the style if you haven't had them before.

The new version: .. Pours a hazy dark honey .. good foam .. . wow, a mixed up concoction .. . assertive tartness, likeness akin to apple skin and grit .. . Oh, don't worry about it. All the teachers loose their car on their first day.

Poured this from a bottle and the aroma of soured cherry raisins with the faintest of honey at the end. The flavor is quite eye opening at first. The sour flavor is right up front kind of screaming at you, letting you know you're having a sour. When you finally swallow it is when the flavor appears. The sour cherry ale flavor is followed with just enough oak to complement the cherries w/o overpowering it. NG just produces good beer, the end.

Man oh man. Two great NG unplugged beers in a week. This beer was absolutely beautiful. Colour is clouded amber, a little reddish. Aroma is sour, but pleasent. Yeasty, fermented apples, cherries and oak. Taste is full, fizzy, tart fruits, sweet undertones, slightly bitter finish, but fresh fresh fresh! Everything about is pleasent and clean incredibly fresh. Cinnamon, cherry, caramel, oak and soft vanilla.

My second time for this style and much better than the Rodenbach I had but still maybe a little too much for my palate. Tart and sour (just falling shy of lip-puckering) for sure with a little funk thrown in; hardly any vinegar in the aroma or taste.

Had this at a beer tasting. Not sure if this type of beer is my style, I will try again in the future though. Amber brown pour with a small head. Very sweet and tart, too much for me.

noticeable vanilla in the aroma and flavor. i like wood, but i think it this case it was a little too much, and made the beer a good/very good beer, when it had the potential to be a phenomenal beer. vanilla, oak, and funky cherry aroma. body is smooth with a lactic quality. flavor like the aroma, pretty well balanced sweet and sour, with the cherry coming through a little. i'd have liked it more sour. it was tart, but not quite sour. super smooth though, and a solid brew. thanks again to pfoxyjohn for this tasty elixir. Belgian Red still king, though.

This beer poured a murky brown appearance with a moderate sized head. The flavor contained some nutmeg, lots of sour cherries, and a woody presence. The flavor was somewhat sour with more cherries, some citrus notes, and oak. A nicely done sour ale!
