Say Hola to a spiced up ale full of cocoa and ancho, guajillo, chipotle peppers, but don't fear the heat, because plenty of caramel and chocolate malts bring a smooth complex flavor. Scents of cinnamon when poured will have you saying "Ole for Mole!"

Was happy to find this on tap at a pub on the Las Vegas strip last month. Lots of chocolate and cinnamon in the aroma but with some chili pepper notes showing through. Flavor is well balanced between sweet and spicy but with a delightful lingering chili pepper spiced finish.

22oz bottle. Pours dark reddiish brown with a smallish fizzy creamy off-white head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is awesome - sweet chocolate, cinnamon and chili spices (mole).
The flavor is sweet chocolate and cinnamon with a chili spice kick in the finish. There's a sublte vegetal note, that I don't recall in fresher samples. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery.
Overall, I really like this. It's a nice blend of chocolate, cinnamon and chili spice. It has good heat, but is not the standard chili beer. -

Thinnish dark brown pour, tall fluffy head, good lacing. Aromas of chocolate malt, light cinnamon, hint of the peppers, chocolate mole. Very tasty: cocoa forward but not overwhelming, nice hint of cinnamon, very slight flavor from the peppers - no heat really - a touch of honey, hint of fruits and citrus. This one actually exceeded my expectations but most beer from New Belgium are that way. Nice effort.

Sampled on 3/16/2012. This spiced ale pours a medium copper brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, hint of pepper and mole. A medium bodied spice ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, touch of pepper and some chocolate and cinnamon. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. A touch of heat from the pepper, with a nice clean flavor that is very well balanced by the chocolate. Very nice beer. Nice mix of heat and sweet. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Looks good in the glass, deep brown ruby but no head. Smells like cinnamon cereal, sweet and malty. Flavor is all cinnamon and malt, some spicey heat, but mostly sugary sweetness. Interesting concept but I question other reviews, this is not good, are you after good beer or beer that tastes like sweet things not remotely like beer?

Strong aroma has an overtone of cinnamon, plus fruity and cocoa notes and hints of malt and cloves. It pours a dark, warm, slightly hazy brown with a decent light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor has a malty core and cinnamon, earthy, chocolate and - whoa! - hot spice notes. Smooth texture is a little creamy and fairly fizzy with needle-like stabs from the hot pepper and a powdery hint. A distinctive and unique brew that is most worthy if you like variety in your beers!

The aroma reminded me of mom's cinnamon and raisin oatmeal, with a added bit of cocoa powder. The body was black with a ruby hue, mid sized cap, not much lace. Flavor predominatley cinnamon with the chocolate, and caramel as well, the heating effect of the peppers shows at the end and is long lasting. Overall a good beer complex, and tasty, but the spice/ heat can be a touch overwhelming, i reccomend splitting a 22oz with someone.

totally surprised by this brew. looks like a porter. the smoothness completely covers the 9% abv. aroma and flavor has a nice cocoa edge to it, with subtle but not hiddedn chillies. the cinnamon wins me over, though, in the nose and taste. perfect useage...better than any spiced examples i;ve had to date. bought another bottle even though the price is steep.

It pours a dark brown and burnt-orange with a thin light-tan head and fairly copious lacing. An aroma of caramel and chocolate malts, coffee and tea, orange and citrus, cinnamon, honey, brown sugar, and the other spices listed in the description. The mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat rich. Flavors of caramel malts, chocolate milk, hops, orange and citrus, cinnamon, honey, and the other spices. Awesome!!!
