Nelson calls this a session beer, but it is better! Brown sugar, tarty, mild everything, super easy to drink. It's only real flaw in my opinion is a somewhat un describleable metallic character, seems... too clean... not gritty enough for a coal miners beer. All said, really good. I've said before, Nelson delivers a super solid consistent product at all levels, which even some of the most reknowned brewers can't say. It would be neat to see them get creative and doing something really astounding, as the talent is clearly there, especially on this beer.

Very dark brown body with a thin fizzy crown what reduced down to just a small bubble island after only a few moments. Mild malty aroma, overly sweet and slightly sour. Hops do come through in the aroma but there well hidden, maybe some coffee to. Metallic fizzy first impression. Taste seems empty but refreshing. Sweet with a bitter finish, coffee, earth. I swear I just smelt peanuts in here. Taste is just to empty and light, it’s a good beer to drink because nothing bad can be really said about it but it’s just really bla……. Mouth feel is fizzy and light. Boring beer next please.

Pours out a deep brown with an average sized, rocky light tan head. The aroma is mild as it should be: lightly toasted malts, weak coffee hints, brown sugar. The taste is noting special but there is nothing wrong with this brew: toasted malts, seems a touch watery, weak coffee, weak dark fruit and a tartness that comes through with the weak bitter aftertaste. Light medium bodied, goes down really smooth and soft and finishes quietly. Drinkability is high but this is a mellow beer all. around and doesn't command much interest. Of note is my coffee breath half an hour after I finished this beer!

Yes, it is DARK. Pouring with a smallish tan head - a head which ran off and hid almost immediately, the colour was of course dark. Both the aroma and the taste featured toasted malt with some coffee undertones. Mouthfeel was on the thin side and the aftertaste was NOT more than adequate.

Tried this one in a Kaslo Bar. One word: disappointed. The look and promise of this beer being a light drinkable English brown ale ...but this notion vanished after the first whiff of sour yeasts I got from the glass I poured. The taste was OK with lots of grains and caramelized malt tastes...possibly a tad unbalanced with too much golding bittering for my taste in a brown ale but the sour yeast taste lingered. The brew poured a dark mahogany with a small brownish head that fizzed out quite early, smell of CO2 and sour yeast. Started crisp with lots of hop tartness, then sits lightly on the palate with an adequate malt body....then that sour yeasts taste comes in and destroys the drink. Overall a tad watery and yeasty to be an English brown.
