750ml swing-top from BCLDB Willowbrook. Damn! I should've bought two. Nearly black pour, and a smallish brown head. Good aroma of chocolate, malt, and cranberry. Flavour was likewise, plus alcohol. Tart cranberry finish. Very good beer in every respect. Mine was labelled as the "Winter Beard".

aka Winter Beard Had a pint at Sir John A in Ottawa Has a creamy brown coppery head, very small. Extremely dark appearance, almost completely black. Thick dirty lacing. Faint aromas of chocolate and malts, not much else to me. Flavours are abundant: chocolate and roasted malts dominate. The cranberry is coming through just slightly but noticeable enough. Mocha, toffee and nutmeg round it out. Coffee taste as well. Tasty and has a thickness in the mouthfeel. A hint of alcohol is apparent. Really good brew on a cold winter day.

Pours a dark brown with a tint of red. Two finger mocha coloured head which lasts for quite a while. Leaves no lacing. Dark chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Don’t get any cranberry. Dark chocolate, cranberry tartness and bittersweet flavour. Not a big fan of fruit in stout but this is well in the background. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body. By the end of 750ml the tartness gets a little much for me.

Large bottle with bothe old name and new name displayed. A solid brown pour with purplish hints. Cap starts out huge and dissipates quickly. Lots of chocolate, coffee, and fruit in the aroma but it hasn't translated well to the flavour, at least not the fruit. I've heard that it doesn't age well either.

This was a great tasting beer, however I could detect no cranberry tartness in either the aroma or the flavour. A brown-red pour with a decent brown head. Dark chocolate, smoke, and roasted malt make up the aroma while the flavour was bitter chocolate through and through.

Enjoy before March 31, 2011 written on sealed tape over swing-top cap. Looks like cola with a big frothy light brown head that stay a bit and as a little lace. Chocolate malt with mild coconut notes, light coffee and vanilla. Mild tarty mouthfeel with the help of cranberries. This fruit is found in the taste, but very subtle. Mostly chocolate (but not too sweet - more on the bitter side) with the coconut notes again lingering into the aftertaste. Pretty interesting and worth trying for sure. Well-brewed with no burns.

The beer poured a solid reddish-brown with a short-lived dark brown bubbly head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, and cranberries. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is weak cranberries, roasted malt, and dark chocolate/cocoa. Alcohol is indeed well hidden. -

750ml swing top bottle chilled to the suggested 9deg.C Decants a deep black opaque ale in the glass with a massive creamy mocha colored cap. Laces the glass well. Modest carbonation. Aroma is large with roasty-cocoa some burnt treacle and light wet hay. Rich silken character and mouth feel. Flavor starts with massive roastiness and cocoa hops sit well back as a light herbal tone, mid palate we get the cranberry and vanilla break through adding light complexity. finish is long where the tartness of the cranberries, astringence of the black malt ’char’ and bitter dark cocoa mingle with the hop bittering building to a roasty-tart almost puckering bittering in the end....dries up reall well from its lush rich malty start. This is a very well mannerd big stout with alcohol well hidden ( it only appears as a gentle warming in the finish) reich silky mouth feel and pleasant big stout flavor married to a tart-dry finish. Great seasonal!
