Rated Nov. 2006. Black ale @ 3.4% ABV in 16.9oz bottle. Dark brown brew with deep red edges. The head is frothy mocha in color leaving a fair amount of lacing down the glass. Mild aroma of burnt malts, roasted coffee beans, molasses and toffee. It seems to taste a bit like a roasted coffee with molasses as the sweetener.

The aroma is simply heavenly, with strong hints of toffee and chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Color is a beautiful dark brown with fine-bubbled and fairly persistent head. Flavor is on the thin side, but it is malty and smoky, more like a stout or porter than a mild ale. Aftertaste has a little bit of hop bitterness. This beer is the cat’s meow!

Pours a dark ruby black-brown with a thinnish tan head that sustains leaving nice lacing. Little carbonation leaving a mouthfeel like a flat Coke. Aromas of sweet malts, mild hops and flat Coca-Cola. Taste is thin with a sweet maltiness and slight hops. Easy to drink.

Cask@Akkurat. Very dark ruby red colour, mediumsized brown creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, spices and some smoke. Flavour is quite the same, but a bit thin. Still a very pleasant cask ale.

Poured a dark brown to black color with red edges and a very nice head that provided rings of lacing on down the glass. The aroma was somewhat of coffee. The flavor was light roasted coffee with some cardboard in there. Mouthfeel was moderately bodied but somewhat thin for the amount of flavor. Carbonation was low.

A very pleasent (and somewhat alternative) offering. This was a favourable blend of a rich, dark, roasted brew within a mild context. Not an easy flavour profile to pull off, but this beer has great composure. Not lean in the least, especially considering its alcohol percentage. Be festive and have one for Halloween!

Pours with a big fizzy head. Dark brown with some garnet highlights when held to a light. Smells like chocolate malt tea. Chocolate flavor. Water thin. Light bitterness that keeps this beer on the interesting side.

Sampled from bottle. Pours opaque blackened ruby with a collared head. Aroma is subtle with a hint of roasted malt and dark fruit. Faintly bitter flavor with toasted, bready malts and some coffee & chocolate. Silky smooth mouthfeel: medium-body, light to medium carbonation. Just glides down your throat. Not to complex overall, but it certainly is for a mild ale.
