The ancient legends that abound the Russian Imperial Stout of yore are filled with tempestuous romance, sinful thievery, and scurvy, too. So highly regarded was this historic recipe, the Russian Kings tried to keep it all to themselves. They failed. Today we bring you our own dastardly dark version, with a rich and roasty aroma, notes of plum and port and a velvety texture so luscious it just might make a grown man weep.

Pours out 100% black with zero head. In all fairness I'm going to rate this slowly because I let it set in the freezer for almost two hours. As it begins to warm up I can smell the complexity. The sucker poured out like a can of oil. The mouthfeel is very thick after 5 minutes of warming up. After 10 minutes the taste is not complex but it's very heavy. Just tons and tons of malt blended hops and bitter chocolate. Note to myself ,this bastard just gets better as it warms up don't ice down again.

A jet blackness in color with a thick, fluffy textured, chocolate brown colored head hanging above. There's great hang time on the head. It settles eventually into a thick ringlet. The profile is roasted goodness with bitter chocolateness. Thick, and slick on the tongue. My kind of ale.

    22oz bottle -

The beer pours out a black body with a 2" dark tan head. Aroma is baker's chocolate, black licorice, toffee and a bit of dark fruit. Flavor has some medium sweetness, huge malt attack, a touch spicy and lightly vinous. A very nice example of an impy stout.

Not HUGE for an RIS, but pretty agressive flavor and aroma. The body is medium for the style, especially. Malted chocolate, dark fruit and a decent amount of bitterness.
