The Franconian Bock (“Frankische Bockbier” in German) is a 7% abv seasonal beer of the type brewed in northern Bavarian state of Franconia. Made with a blend of 3 malts imported from Franconia and German Hersbrucker hops and German lager yeast, it is a malty flavoured, medium-bodied and very drinkable strong lager beer. Medium amber coloured and extremely soft and round on the palate with a smooth finish that is typical of this style, the Franconian Bock will appeal to drinkers who are looking for a more traditional biscuit/caramel palate in this style. We made the Franconian Bock because our brewmaster visits that part of Germany every year and has fallen in love with their Bockbiers.

Got this one in the Mill Street Seasonal Sampler IV at the LCBO. Pours a clean light copper colour with an off-white head that is big, disappears at a medium pace and does not create much lacing. Pretty mild aromas of caramel and fruits (very light bananas). Medium-light mouthfeel with not much to it. Again, a balance of light caramel and bananas for the taste. Has a bit more taste than their ESB I just had, but overall not a powerful bock. Not even sure if it is good for a starter in the style. Easy-drinking is pretty much all I have to say - for a 7% ABV.

The beer poured a translucent copper colour with a thin white ring for a head. The aroma is dark fruits, some roast, and some weak cherry hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is sweet malt, some fruit, and a bitter finish. Not a bad beer, but not a great beer either.
