This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

On tap at Apex, Portland. Dark orange that really seems to shine from within. Dark white head, really good lacing. Aroma is spruce tree sap, some type of earthy-fragrant-bitter-honey. Taste is nice, big body, not a completely smooth mouthfeel, really brings on the salivation. A white pepper seems to exist, or some kind of latent spicyness. Its pretty fantastic, with some rough edges, which I found refreshing after a dozen OR Ipas which we're all super clean and precise. I think this beer brought out the best in this hop.

Sampled on 9/2/2011. This India Pale ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is malt, cereal, fruity, sweet, piney and citrusy. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are cereal, fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity, citrusy and piney. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
