This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Pours a pretty clear dark amber with an OK pale tan head. Strong, hoppy aroma has a fruity overtone, a bit sweeter than with most IPAs and more pomme (apple and pear) than citrus. Hoppy flavor has firm malty and fruity notes, a little bitterness and a little fruity sweetness to balance it. Smooth texture has fizz and body a little above average, leaves a hoppy, woody and slightly fruity finish.

Sampled on 10/1/2011. This IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing and nice retention. The aroma is caramel and sweet, herbal and piney. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and piney. Decent carbonation. Medium bitterness that sort of lingers. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
