Mikkeller’s newest stateside brew Invasion IPA, was brewed at Drake’s Brewing in San Leandro, California. Now, Mikkeller (who has no physical brewery) has brewed in the United States before, but almost always (fail to remember one on their own) as a collaboration. (See: Jester King, Three Floyds, Etc.) Invasion is an American IPA, available in 22oz bombers. Shelton Brothers in Massachusetts will still distribute the beer, potentially pushing into existing Mikkeller markets across the U.S. It would be some interesting role reversal to have some Mikkeller imported the other way…

Strong, hoppy aroma has a firm fruity note, mainly citrus but with some pear and apple. Pours a slightly hazy coppery brown with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled buff head. Strongly hoppy flavor has woody, sour citrus and evergreen notes with a hint of caramel. Smooth, firm texture has a decent amount of fizz, and finish is quite hoppy and has both bitter and sweet undertones. Let this one invade your mouth!

#2900 from the brewery i have drank more than any other (i think - Boston beer is up there too!). Lots of citrus and pine in the aroma, but with a stronger than usual sweet malt presence as well, even more so in the flavor. medium bodied, well balanced, easy drinking. bittersweet finish is nice.

Sampled on 3/9/2012. This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, orange, citrus and piney hops. A medium to full bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet. The hops are citrusy and piney with a touch of grapefruit. A medium bitter double IPA. Decent carbonation A nice hoppy IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
