light smoke/sweetness , light tar, burnt caramel notes ... balanced like a bowling ball on a knife in a bag at the bottom of the ocean in concrete .. abv is slightly apparent .. "s'more schnapps" ... pretty tasty stuff, but lacks the smoke level and fullness of most scotches...

Those who know me, know I love high alcohol Scottish ales. So when I showed up at the Old Toad in Rochester, NY in late December 2007 and this stuff was on draught I was really excited. The waitress even said, "you sure you want this stuff?" Apparently a lot of folks have gone into the establishment, ordered it and hated it cause it was so strong. That made me want some even more.
What she brought out was a really nicely crafted Scottish ale. The first thing that I noticed was the high alcohol aroma, mixed with an oak barrel smell. It was just oozing from the glass. The color was dark brown, with a red tint to it when holding it to the light. On the mouth, it had virtually no carbonation on the tongue and almost a sweet chocolaty and dry woody taste to it. Little carbonation lead to a very little head, leaving behind minimal lacing. This is a well crafted Scottish brew. After reading all the bottle reviews, I'm curious to see the difference. -

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with average retention. Aroma of big sweet malt with a very subtle note of peat malt. Taste of rich sweet caramel malt with some peat notes and some warming alcohol. Body is a bit thin for the style and less filtration would have benefited this beer IMHO. Alcohol is present and warming but really does fit well and it didn’t bother me.

Poured from the bottle a reddish tone. The beer had a rich look to it. Sweet arona with boozy tones. The mouthfeel started out chewy but smoothed as you drank. The flavor was of hops and candy. The two flavors went well together and gave the beer a good drinkability.

Middle Ages Ye Old Kilt Tilter poured a slightly dark reddish body with a small head. It tasted of hops balanced off nicely with a sweetness almost fruity flavor. It was one of the better Scottish ales I've had the pleasure of tasting.

Mediun dark brown color with amber undertones. Sweet hoppy aroma and flavor, slightly bitter.
