Sampled on 3/17/2012. This IPA pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz can. Medium sized white foamy head with nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, with some citrusy hops. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet, caramel and bready. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity, with some tropical flavors. Decent carbonation. A medium bitterness IPA. Nice balance between the hops and malts. A touch of tropical sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

12oz can. Pours a clear golden orange with a medium rocky white head that laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet melon, some crystal malt and some earthy, spicy hops.
The flavor is a lot of sweet sugary malts, fruit and biscuit with some grassy bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, too sweet and biscuity for me and I didn't care a lot for the hop flavors. Decent though, but not worth $12 a six pack. -

It pours a bright amber with a thick and foamy white/light-orange head and copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, pine, grapefruit and citrus, honey, some bitterness, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth although thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, grapefruit and citrus, honey, bitterness and lightly spicy. It is good, but certainly not worth the cost.

before i had this i was wondering why a brewer that only cans a few beers would can a 2nd ipa as a special release, and after having said beer...i'm still wondering. i kinda dig the hops used. earthy and a bit floral, but this is an average ipa at best, one dmensional, and not as good as the regular one, so it still begs the question - why?
