This beer evolved from our Local Origins Farmers Ale as it became really clear that using our malt kiln to dry locally grown and sourced hops from farmers all over Sonoma and Napa Counties was a bigger project than we suspected. Our intent was to secure as many locally grown hops as we could, buy them wet, dry them, and then vacuum pack and freeze them for use throughout the year on our Terroir Series and/or Farmers Ale. What transpired was more of a brewing for the sake of hops like epiphany as well as the pure expression of Terroir from each of our growers. Yes Cascade grown in different blocks in slightly different micro climates affects flavor! So it began with 100 % Columbus Hops on a fairly simple pale ale with some wheat malt 30% of grain bill, Calistoga Water and Scarlet 2 Row Malt as well as a Belgian Yeast (each bottle will be double stampled one for the lot code/Alc v/v and the other for the hop variety and origin). This first offering, Batch 170909188, is a Belgian like IPA with NE IPA tweaks to it....Hazy... Not really just unfiltered so maybe! The Oast House Ale Series is the beginning of another sub-journey that will take us deep into Hop Terroir and the exploration of these varieties that may seem well old school but given the right back up band will show you what its all about.
