Inspired by a homebrew, Chris made a maple vanilla doppelbock. This one pours dark caramel with a creamy head. Malty and full-bodied, sweet biscuit, maple, and mild vanilla aromas eminate from the glass. Roasty malt and maple syrup flavors arrive first, with vanilla and mild lager yeast ester fruitness eventually making a showing. If you like flavor, this one’s got it in spades. This mapley doppelbock will pair well with a roasted duck or goose. Try substituting the usual sour ale with some of Chris’ beer in a Belgian carbonade flamande. Or, just enjoy with a chunk of smoked swiss, and maple-candied walnuts.

Pours a slightly hazy chestnut with a fairly icky an head. Malty aroma has notes of maple and vanilla - no surprise there. Flavor is quite sweet, almost a bit too sweet, vanilla and maple syrup notes plus a toasted malt undertone. Texture is thick and syrupy, not too fizzy. Fine ONI a small dose - don’t believe I could take a whole bomber at once. Take your turn.

A couple of these bottles showed up at the Hootenanny, from the PfoxyJohn. Light amber gold color, condensed sustained white head, some lacing. Nice sweet caramelly aroma and flavors upfront, then the hints of vanilla show up, not too sweet, and then the maple as it warms a bit, still not too sweet! Malty, tasty, decedent. Loved it. Great Doppelbock - Thanks John!

Started a little one dimensional but opened up quite nicely. Good doses of maple, vanilla and breast bock. Not elite, but pretty damn smooth and enjoyable. The best Lakefront beer I've had (though memory loss is a common side effect of drinking).
