Dark and thick like your favorite dessert with a Bonus. Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, gives the beer uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth… kinda like a hydraulic sandwich in a glass. Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman wioth a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle. Thanks for your trust, and as always:Think Globally, Drink Locally!! Say "LAH-GOO-KNEE-TUSS"

650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.9%, OG 1092, IBU 72.45. Very dark brown to black colour, ruby in the highlights, large beige head. Moderate aroma, mild coffee notes, hints of dark chocolate. Sweet flavour with plenty of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, some bitterness in the finish. Quite good.

Bottle clocks in at 9.9% abv. An opaque dark brown/black color with a medium tan head that leaves a lot of lacing on my snifter glass. Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted/caramel malt and ash on the nose. Dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and some subtle hops on the tongue. Mouthfeel is full and a bit creamy. An slightly above average Imperial Stout whose price point elevates the rating that I will give it. $3.49 a bomber? Really? Find it for this price and buy it.

9.9% abv on the label. Close to a perfect looking pint. Great head, retention and lacing for such a high abv. Flavour and nose are similar with roasted malt, sweet dark fruit, chocolate, cocoa, and burnt wood. Very sweet despite the high ibu's. Medium sticky mouthfeel. Got to like the price of Lagunitas.

Pours a very dark brown with some ruby highlights. Cocoa dominates the aroma but mixes with a bit cedar. Tastes of cocoa and molasses with a curious caramel sweetness. Finishes somewhat dry, but sticky chocolate/burnt marshmallow sweetness coats the tongue but the bitter dark grains and hops seem to keep the beer from being too sweet.

Nice to have something from Lagunitas that wasnt hop oriented, you know to see what else they can do. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, a touch of coffee, and licorice. Flavor was about the same but the alcohol drowned out some of the other flavors, so had to drop the rating a bit. Overall a decent enough brew.

A big beer, pours so dark that direct sunlight does not pass through the glass. Lots of flavor, may not be the most complicated beverage on the planet, but it tastes good! High enough ABV to make a difference - buy it and enjoy.

Bottled@SBWF2010. Deep ambery brown colour with not too much head. Aroma is liquorice, dark dry fruits, toffee as well as some mild black malty ashyness. Flavour is quite much the same with liquorice, chocolate and toffee being the most evident.

From Pt Roberts (WA) Marketplace. This poured an impressively black body, nearly impervious to light, beneath a tiny tan head. Aroma was malty, maybe with some dark chocolate, but not a hint as to the high ABV. Flavour was supurb, malt, dark chocolate, and dark licorice. Mouthfeel rich and thick, with a pleasing finish. More, please!

Another great value from Lagunitas. A bomber of a heady 10.5% ABV stout for under $4. What's not to like? Pours a deep dark near black, with faint ruby tones around the edges where the light makes it through. A good full mocha colored head, with some spotty lacing. Aroma is richly roasted malts, and perhaps, as with the chocolate and dark fruit notes on the palate, more reminiscent of a sweet stout than an impy, so some could judge it harshly for style. But not being a nitpicker myself, I feel no shame in rating it highly. At the price, I always buy this one in pairs.

Pours out in a dark brown colour with a small bubbly tan-coloured head. Mild and rather clean aroma of cocoa-powder, ash, caramel and sweet licorice. Meedium-bodied with clean and rather weak notes of sweet licorice, caramel, mild pepper and figs. Short medium-bitter finish of sweet licorice and coffee. A rather poor example of the style.
